I'm guessing about 34% on RT.

Rotten Tomatoes needs to die. And this is coming from someone who adored reading critic reviews and once aspired to be one. But I'll watch a movie for myself now. I don't look up reviews anymore.

Idk man. James Wan movies are usually well received, it will be interesting to see where the RT score settles in at.

I don't think I've ever seen a movie that he's in that was good, especially when he's the main star. Hope that's not going to be the case for this one.

It doesn't need to die. More people just need to understand that the score is a percentage of how many critics gave the film a positive review; not a score of the film itself. The score does not accurately reflect the opinions of the critics but is instead more of a judge as to how many critics liked it (each critic gets to determine if their review is counted as "fresh" or "rotten"). So for example, a lot of critics may say a film was enjoyable but has major flaws in storytelling and character and would class it as "rotten".

People are never going to learn that. People are never going to take the time and effort to actually understand what they're reading (see literally any news media). Metacritic is WAY better than RT but even people on this site have said they don't like it because they can't understand how it works (it's literally just a weighted average). So yeah, in light of these facts, RT really should die. It won't, but it should.

I really think this will do better than Wonder Woman at the Box Office.
I think it's gonna be a looker on 4K too!

Rotten Tomatoes is fine. But things in my world don't simply exist in binary. Everything isn't simply black or white, good or bad. There are bad films that do many things well and vice versa.

I've always disliked binary systems, especially things like Reddit and upvoting; as if the worth of something is based upon how many popular thumbs ups it receives. While actual facts and reality checks get downvoted and buried. It's one of the biggest problems of our first world today if you ask me; people only hear or believe what they like to see. They don't have to listen or adhere to anything they dislike, and the truth be damned.

Let me rephrase then:

I'm guessing only 34% of critics will like it, thus giving it a 34% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Other than a couple of times, I've mostly always agreed with the score. There have been one or two 80-90% movies that I didn't care for, and there have been a couple 40-50% movies I've liked. However, the majority of the time, if its low, it's garbage.

Yeah, Rotten Tomatoes is fine. They just need a PSA or something about what the scores mean. A 50% would mean half the critics liked it to an unspecified degree, and half didn't to an unspecified degree.

Theoretically you could have a movie that scores a 100%, and is universally agreed upon to be a "pretty good" B- film. But some people would think this means it's a flawless masterpiece if they don't get how the score works.

RT also provides a consensus and links to various reviews. It's actually a handy little site, aside from some people looking at the score blindly and drawing the wrong conclusions from what it means.

When I go to RT , I look at the individual reviews from the professionals that I know and trust. I've loved a lot of 30% RT movies. And I couldn't be bothered with a few of the 90%.

James Wan said about 90% of the film is in IMAX aspect ratio, hopefully those ratios come on the disc too. D56ABC19-0B49-4CFF-B594-1AE43A1AD90A.jpg

It’s going to do fine critically. All signs point to a 70% minimum.
