So instead of $10.99 / month your subscription will be $9.99 / month. Instead of $99.99 / year you pay $89.99 / year. Those discounts are for the length of your subscription. |

Blu-ray Samurai

I find it fascinating that after watching Chungking Express, I have this intense desire to own it on bluray - despite it being out of print. I know it will be there on the Criterion streaming service when it launches in April, so I can revisit it any time I want, but I now feel like I should own this piece of artwork.
I can't recall the last Netflix show I felt that way about, maybe Stranger Things... [edit] To clarify - I think it is wonderful having a service like the Criterion Channel that will allow people easier access to films that evoke discussion and thought not just on rudimentary topics but on more complex and interesting angles of film-making. I am already feeling the effects of it, thinking differently about narrative in general. Both Chungking Express and Mikey and Nicky are examples of non-generalized story structure, which warrants the need to revisit and analyze everything. My comment on owning these films physically is not a slight against any streaming service, as I think having more exposure to a variety of content is incredibly important. I just find it amusing that such a reaction to seeing a film manifests itself as a need to own it. Film collecting is a strange hobby to have ![]() Last edited by Animatic33; 02-10-2019 at 04:44 PM. |

Anyone else having issues playing Chungking Express or any of its related extras on the Criterion Channel?
On the VHX Roku app, I get a brief loading screen before being booted back to the menu. On my web browser, I get an inaccurate screen that says, "Sorry, this video cannot be played while your device is connected to this external monitor" (it isn't). Mikey and Nicky played flawlessly on the Roku VHX app last week. |

Pretty frustrating since it'll be gone after today (until April, at least). Hope they get all the kinks worked out before the real launch. |

I had success airplaying Chungking Express from my iPad Air 2 in safari to an Apple TV 2.
Chrome worked both on OSX and Windows 7. No support for chrome cast. Criterion mentions they haven’t officially supported either with the latest offering. Pretty sure they’re going barebones until it officially launches. |

Trying to watch on my laptop; it's not hooked up to anything but my printer. Won't play because of nonexistent external monitor. Try different browsers: you've reached the device limit on your account. Gee, thanks a lot.
Also, on my account at least, the "cancel subscription" button does absolutely nothing. It's either disabled or broken. |

If you have TCM on your cable package, Roku finally added the TCM app.

Sounds pretty nice. Most Criterion movies for me are risky blind buys given their prices and limited mainstream appeal, but it's nice that they have been more inviting to releasing movies that more than a handful of people would actually want to watch, like The Breakfast Club. It was nice when they had a deal with Hulu since it's a service a lot of folks already have.

This is going to probably be a really stupid question, but I never used FilmStruck, so I just wanted to make sure I understood everything correctly before signing up (and ultimately saving me a lot of money from buying their Blu-rays as much)... This will include all of their currently released catalog, and they will continue to add the ones they add to the Collection?

The original Filmstruck didn't have a lot of TCM stuff, did it? It did have a lot of major Warner titles such as King Kong and whatnot, which I'm sure will be on the new channel too. By "TCM stuff," I mean the more obscure titles aired on TCM late nights with maybe 5 people watching, e.g. Obsession (1949), Evergreen (1934), etc.
