Halloween and Blade Runner were what pushed me. Funny because they were also the titles that made me go blu-ray over HD-DVD. Blade Runner came out on both formats and it's what made me want to go HD but I was so undecided between the two formats. Then Halloween was announced for blu-ray only and I was like DONE and got both.

Both Arrow and Synapse can't stay behind now.

I know the perfect UHD debut titles for each: RoboCop for Arrow and Suspiria for Synapse.

Fingers crossed if Arrow are planning Robocop for 4K they decide to release some of their back catalogue too. I'm not talking some of the lesser known titles, but stuff like The Thing HAS to come out in 4k. Videodrome too, but that's wishful thinking on my behalf.

I've never heard of Final Frame before, they describe themselves as a "boutique" operation on their website but as they handled the scanning and mastering for the upcoming Apollo 11 documentary (created entirely from archive 5/65mm footage that NASA has been sitting on for 50 years), amongst other things, then we seem to be in good hands.

The Thing, yes definitely. But more importantly, I would like all of the (golden era) Argentos they hold licence to on UHD.

With the Thing and Videodrome each being with two different labels (US vs UK), I'm wondering how it would work? Is it possible that only one of the labels have the UHD rights?

I'd say it would be no different from the Italian 4K and the upcoming French UHD set of "Dawn of the Dead". Criterion/Shout and Arrow could, theoretically, release their own UHDs in their respective countries.

It is possible that Universal didn't license the UHD rights to The Thing to either Arrow or Scream, or the UHD rights to Videodrome to either Arrow or Criterion.

Hopefully HMV online will be back in the game soon, as if their service remains the same (timely dispatching for release day and items arriving mint) then that’ll be my preferred pre-order place.

Marvellous. Time to bin* that Italian 4K atrocity.

*Only joking, but it will be flogged.
