The films are pretty much dead now after the dire performance of Beyond.

Cynical ol' me was wondering the same thing, now that it's been officially anointed as 'The Kelvin Trilogy'. The fourth JJ-verse film never looked like it was going to gain much traction and they might well concentrate on making the QT one instead, particularly as I doubt it would be as wildly expensive as these three were to make.

To have such an overt reference to the alternative timeline when they've never referred to it as explicitly as this before - witness the bafflement of some folks up in here - seems to me like they're wanting to distance it from any canon stuff going forward, e.g. the Picard series (which I know isn't even Paramount's to shill at this point in time, but if the Viacom/CBS merger goes ahead then Trek's TV and theatrical stars may get aligned once again).

There's been that rumor of a Tarantino-scripted R-rated Star Trek film. Who knows if it'll feature the reboot cast or a new one. https://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/...y-at-paramount

One of the rumours going around was that Pine and co. were holding out for more money as they weren't contracted for a fourth, something like that I think? So that's it for the reboot cast IMO, whatever Tarantino does with it I think they'll get in a load of unknowns to keep the costs down.

Yeah I read something about the money disputes... the fourth was apparently supposed to be a time-travel story that brought back Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk, and speculation was his paycheck would've been bigger than Pine's, so hence the holdout.

But I also read another story about the Tarantino version that had quotes from Simon Pegg and Karl Urban, that gave me the impression they assumed they'd be involved. I wonder how many movies they were contracted for?

From what I remember of the quotes it was more hope than expectation on their behalf. If Paramount do decide to make QT's movie then they could use it as a starting point for a new series of movies - though we're all assuming it revolves around the classic characters, it may yet have a different slant.

Chris and Chris killed it.
I think they all want to work with QT, but he just got the latest draft the other week I think I read, so its a while off.

Bring back Shatner as a bitter, aging, down-on-his-luck Kirk who assembles a ragtag crew for an intergalactic heist, that of course goes terribly wrong since it's a Tarantino movie.

Kelvin actors seem to think they'll be involved with the QT one (I know Quinto and maybe Urban have spoken to that effect). But IMHO the QT movie is kind of a pipe dream; I hope it happens but I'm not expecting it to.

Hemsworth also admitted recently that the idea wasn't sitting with him well, so he also walked due to that (he'll regret that after the way the new Men In Black performed). This essentially kills the script they had, so they're back to square one for a part 4.

The story I heard was that Pine and Hemsworth signed new contracts for the fourth film with larger salaries being part of the deal. When Beyond underperformed at the box office, Paramount started trying to cut costs on the fourth film and apparently tried to significantly cut Pine and Hemsworth's salaries which did not go down well. IIRC it was less the fact that they were getting paid less and more that Paramount was trying to go back on the deal they'd signed with the two actors, in a "You agreed to these terms, you can't just change them whenever you want" type of way. Hemsworth would then go on to say that another reason he walked was that he didn't like the script. I'm not 100% on those details, but that's the story I heard.

don't have the standalone 4k's so this seems like something good to pick up when it eventually goes on sale

Yeah, $60 for three 4K movies that come with 3 Blu-rays is much too expensive. Waiting for it to be on sale around $30 dollars is the better thing to do.

So I know why they have done it but having the Kelvin on the cover instead of the Enterprise bugs me a bit.
Also if they are closing the book on this crew then there is no reason they can't do a full 1-13 Box set now..

If they just put a picture of the Enterprise and called it "Kelvin Timeline," vast majority of people wouldn't know what to expect in that set. (See the confusion over what Kelvin is in this thread alone.)

True. There's even confusion about this connection to the original and next generation of Star Trek.

Yes, there is. This is the Kelvin Timeline and as such has nothing to do really with the first 10 and would not work. This is just for the Kelvin Timeline.

Looks great! I've been holding off on the upgrade in hopes of a trilogy set.

Working actors should be grateful to get cast in movies like this, it's a real privilege. So what if they have to accept a little less money, when their careers really start drying up they'll regret turning down big gigs like this. Our side of Thor how many more shots does Hemsworth have? I've never seen someone weather so many flops lol. As for Chris Pine, great actor but hardly big leading man material outside of Trek in terms of big budget movies. Sure I bet he's happy to do smaller stuff like Hell or High Water but I guarantee it doesn't pay as much as Trek or give him the same kind of exposure. These actors need to accept that this level of success is very hard to attain these days and now that movie stars have gone out the window, they should cling on to franchises like this.
