I guess this is a nice set for anyone that hasn't upgraded but why didn't they just put this out when Beyond came to home video?

If they did this for the motion picture trilogy (ST2,3 and 4) i'd be a happy man.

This isn't even the whole story, is it? If I remember correctly they were planning to do a few more movies? The set looks great, but if it isn't even complete there's no point in buying it. Plus I have the original releases. This release looks great though, so if there won't be any new films I would have gotten this one.

Years ago Paramount put Khan, Search for Spock and Voyage Home into their own 'motion picture trilogy' BD release: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Star-...-Blu-ray/4191/, I figured it was only a matter of time before they'd do so with them Kelvins. That always seemed a bit silly, this does not though as it makes perfect sense even if it is rather late with it.

Lovely art, yeah. I'm confused as to what the extra disc is with Beyond, is that the retailer exclusive extras (Target edition I think it was) that they've bundled in? And it'd be so awesome if they'd re-encoded these 4K discs with DV in the meantime, seeing as Paramount are so mad about it now, but who am I kidding? That'll only happen in an alternate timeline.

It was also a Sainsbury exclusive over here in the UK. Funny enough, managed to grab it off eBay yesterday for £3.61 delivered. Guessing it is this disc unless it's the 3D disc (which wouldn't make sense since STID 3D isn't included.

I know, I've got the Sainsburys version, I just kinda forgot that Paramount have previously bundled in retailer exclusive discs on their US UHD packages, like on some of the Mission Improbables.

Correct me if I'm wrong but was there a US 4K trilogy pack previously, one that wasn't a bare bones triple pack thrown together for a retailer? If not then this kind of 'premium' UHD bundle hasn't been done yet over there, so it isn't such a wild and crazy idea.

I only own Darkness & Beyond on 4K. What was it about Star Trek 4K, was poor compression a problem, I kept my blu-ray of that movie because reviews of the 4K weren't that hot around here.

The compression is bad, but it was totally worth upgrading

Timing's so random, I wonder if this is Paramount's unofficial way of closing the book on Kelvin.

I don't even know what Kelvin is, but I've been wanting these 3 on UHD, so I'll definitely be up for this!

Kelvin Timeline = the timeline the reboot trilogy takes place in (ST '09, Into Darkness, Beyond). Called "Kelvin" because that's the name of the ship Kirk's dad piloted that encountered the Romulans and created the new timeline at the beginning of ST '09.

There doesn't seem to be much of a saving against buying them all separate. If anything, you'd find them cheaper and on sale individually.

Right now it's at MSRP. It'll go down.
