Does anyone think that any (or I guess just the two of them at the moment) of the revival seasons will get a blu-ray release? Or is it likely that Nickelodeon will stick to releasing them in the DVD format? If I have to get them in HD digitally, I'll bite. It'd just be nice if they were released on blu-ray since they've been airing in HD (and would look great on blu-ray.)

I did contact Nickelodeon about it with their contact email. I haven't gotten any reply (and don't know if I will), but it wouldn't hurt to let them know that some of their audience would like the show available in HD physically.

Here's their contact email: feedback@nick.com

Saw copies of this at Walmart. Looks like the original seasons 1-5 MODs on Amazon are no longer being made.

I heard about Amazon ceasing the MOD program, but when I made posts on this forum trying to find out which releases would be ceased I was completely ignored. I ordered a few releases in preparation that it was true - I ordered Seasons 4 & 5 and some albums a friend released as MOD CDs through Amazon. I see they are unavailable also. That friend passed away in Jan from Covid, so I'm glad I did it.

I never heard anything about them ceasing the program until one day I couldn't find any MODs anymore. I'm glad I was able to acquire all five seasons of the original show beforehand when I first saw them. They are all on Paramount+ as far I can tell. Haven't watched any of them there yet, though.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Didn't realize the original show is out of print. Ugh. I got lazy and only bought the first couple or so dvd seasons and have been wanting to watch them. The dvd set sounds more appealing for completion, but it's good to know they're hopefully all there and complete seasons on Paramount+. Was glad to get the complete series of Alex Mack as it was one of the last shows I really regularly watched on Nickeoldeon.

Yeah, I'm glad I got the Alex Mack set, too. I had a mad crush on Larisa Oleynik as a kid. I let my Doug set go one time in a trade-in, and I've regretted it ever since because it's now OOP as well due to the MOD halt.

IIRC there are many DVD releases on eBay, but they’re very expensive and all OOP. When the boutique and MOD services shut down, then it’s streaming all the way. I can’t see anyone else acquiring or attempting to acquire the rights to the show, since with streaming Paramount sees all profit and no loss. I hope this isn’t correct, but I feel the end is coming for physical media, at least with classic TV and movies. These should have really gotten a Blu-ray, since even though they were shot on 16mm they were very well done and could have looked great. I hope the current DVDs aren’t shit like Xena: Warrior Princess was.

I don't think it's a sign that physical media is dying, it's just certain studios deciding not to invest in it because to them, it's probably not worth the added production cost. They underestimate the demand for certain titles among fans, and I always felt like those who opt out of physical media sales are missing an extra source of revenue.

It is shame that original show doesn't a re release on DVD. I mean ideally they could just do it on SDBD like the German version of Goosebumps.

As far as seasons 6 & 7 don't think those will ever come to the US because of the issue with Canada.

The revival show should have been released on BD along side their DVD counterparts but again kids studios never cater to adults who have I don't know money....lol.

For anyone who hasn't watched them yet, it appears there are issues with several episodes of the original show in Season 1 and a couple in Season 2 on Paramount+. I've watched them on both Apple TV 4K and Amazon Fire Cube, but the issues persist. Most notably, during the episode "The Laughing in the Dark," there's a lot of frame drops (slow downs), stuttering, and IIRC, one point where it froze for a full second before proceeding.

Other episodes from season 1 have the frame drop issue sporadically, but it does impede playback. In Season 2, during "The Tale of Locker 22" there were a couple of weird VHS-like anomalies with horizontal lines on the screen that lasted just a half second or so, and I believe there was one part that skipped a couple seconds ahead.

Not sure what good it'll do, but I did send Paramount+ a support email notifying them of the issues in hopes they'll look into them. The problematic episodes play just fine on my DVDs (the Amazon MOD ones), so it's not an original source issue.

There is. I noticed that as well on my Xbox Series X. Was watching and was thinking why is there so much stuttering and lag. Sad that Amazon ended to MOD program as I can't ever get then on DVD anymore.

Also need to email Paramount + and tell them to stop being babies and just add all the episodes.

Yeah, I'm glad I got my Amazon set when I did. I just saw a set of them (used) on eBay earlier for $336. Yikes.

I'm always hoping every year for the anniversary of the show that we'd finally get a legit complete series set. But that's just wishful thinking, I guess.

Blows my mind that they didn't offer Seasons 1-5 when the revival seasons started.

To bad we couldn't start a petition to get Viacom to press them again.

That would be cool. I'm sure they wouldn't do it unless there was a high enough demand for it, though.

EDIT: So tonight after work, I thought I'd finally start watching the first season of the newer Are You Afraid of the Dark? on Paramount+. Episode two starts, and there's a scene with the midnight society having their emergency meeting, but the dialogue track is missing. There's music and sounds, but the cast is talking and I'm not hearing any dialogue.

Seems like Paramount+ is really screwin' the pooch here with these shows.

I remember being a kid and loving this show. I remember saturdays was SNICK. Are You Afraid of the Dark would always be the final snick show of the night, airing after ren and stimpy.

Eerie Indiana was another good show.
