Its interesting that over the years they have dropped the "special edition" moniker entirely, probably after the VHS release. Its now just "The Empire Strikes Back" and the SE versions kinda morphed into the bog standard edition by stealth.

These covers are not official. Someone just modified the recent BD covers.

You say over the years, but after the initial VHS releases they had dropped SE from the title. I did watch Star Wars on Disney+ in 4K/DV and I did notice the end credits refer to the film as the special edition.

The end credits do because they were adjusted in 1997 to include the main players who worked on the SEs, but as they've been revised THREE times since then even those credits are out of date

Correct, but don't joke yourself here, the "TBD" fanmade covers are literally going to be what Disney will use for the UHD releases of these. Like they did with the MCU UHD releases.

Not like Disney releases new covers for their films only not use them!

Yeah, they like getting their money's worth from the new cover designs.

The thread title should include "1997 SE".

It isn't the 1997 SE, though.

Yeah that bottom banner is ugly AF and is better just being on the back of the case.

Yeah I really dislike those monochrome covers from the last video wave. Hoping for something new or some nice looking steel books or something.

No original cut, no buy. Easy as that. Is there any hope left that both cuts could be available?

Or are we supposed to wait for another fan preservation effort to compensate for the sloppiness of the "professionals"? Or stick to the old DVD Set?

I'd even buy the Episode one UHD if it was offered in its un****ed not so glory

Empire has received the least amount of tampering of the OT trilogy subsequent to the SE editions, even including the few extra changes from the Disney+ version, so I'd still be in the market for this.

I don't mind the covers as long as they release Rise of Skywalker matching the rest cos you can bet they won't or they'll do their usual Disney move and release it months down the line when everyone has bought a none matching set and forgotten about it

I don't agree in that there's more egregious changes in my view, but "bring my shuttle" worked so much better. The line reading from James Earl Jones was fantastic. Sounds terrifying and mightily pissed off at the same time.

The ones posted here ARE “fan-made” but yes, that will more-or-less be the artwork anyway.

I tend to agree. That entire original part of the movie was one the most high tension, dramatic, well played out sequences in trilogy (or entire series) with a perfect musical score as icing on the cake. The "Alert" alteration was a huge deflater.

Thanks, so this pretty much confirms no Theatrical Cut. Guess it is just the most recent Disney+ version. Shame.
