It looks like it’s starting from the beginning of Foundation judging by the original trailer and they are also expanding on that since it was only the first chapter in the first book. I know Gaal Dornick and Salvor Hardin have both been gender swapped so you might not recognize them (not unexpected considering the novels aren’t much on diversity) I’d expect there’s going to be a lot of changes from the book. Jared Harris is a fantastic choice for Seldon though.

The trailers look like they are for a video game.

I have not read the books, but I like sci-fi and the trailers seem to be pretty good. This looks like it has a pretty decent budget behind it and I saw some actors I like in the trailers. I'll be watching this for sure when it gets released. I read that it was filmed across 6 different countries.

I've been stunned by how generic most space battles look this past decade. Everything seems to run at the same speed, the only variance seems to be the amount of excess fill light, which further reduces credibility. I swear, sometimes I think uprezzed B5 would play more engagingly than a lot of what passes for the current state of the art. And I know that's the case with a lot of 20th century miniature motion control photography.

That's because video games have become more cinematic. In my opinion, I liked video games more when they were less like movies and concentrated more on actual gameplay, but that is for another thread. I don't think I've seen any game that looks this good though.

I like those old shows too, but I think many TV series and movies are moving away from ships flying in space the same way they would in an atmosphere and going with a more realistic approach like The Expanse for instance.

I don't mind games that look cinematic. Games today look a lot better and more realistic today than they did some years ago of course.

But what I mind is when movies look too much like games, like some of the super hero movies for example. That's probably why I'm not that big of a fan of many superhero movies these days (bad CGI, unrealistic CGI etc.). They look fake and like video games, and at that point, I'd rather put on a video game and play that instead of watching a movie that looks like game.

It's not the look that bothers me. I just want to actually play the games, not watch a 15 minute cinema cut scene every so often. If I wanted that, I'd just go watch a movie.

I just think the "looks like a video game" criticism has been used too often. It's become a generic canned response to anything that is obviously CGI. I think the trailer for Foundation looks amazing, and I haven't seen a video game look like that. But what do I know, I used to watch Buck Rogers. Same with video games. I grew up playing Final Fantasy and Zelda on the NES.

My concerns regarding Foundation are more story-based. This looks to be more "inspired by the Foundation books" than an adaptation of the books themselves.

I agree, I'm not a fan of long cut scenes either. I prefer to be playing the game instead. I like when the game itself and the actual gameplay looks cinematic, depending on the type of game of course.

I'm not against CGI. CGI is commonplace in many or most movies today. I guess it comes down to how it is implemented in various movies/series. Some movies succeed at it while others fail in my opinion. I often like realistic looking CGI that's not really noticeable as being CGI. I guess that I'm not a fan of obvious cartoony looking CGI, which is why I'm not crazy about some superhero movies, where the CGI is not just backgrounds but main characters too sometimes.

The Foundation trailer looks pretty good and I didn't have any complaints about the CGI there, based on what I saw.

I used to watch Buck Rogers on tv back in the day also, when it originally aired.

They're going to drop the first three episodes on September 24, then the other 7 will release weekly.

the production values for this look insanely good...the upcoming Lord of the Rings series on Amazon is supposed to be the most expensive TV show ever made but this looks right up there in terms of budget

Glad this has a date now. Finally be able to watch something besides For All Mankind on Apple TV+.

The trailer seems very action focused. Hope it actually captures the novels well and isn't just boiled down.

I love Ted Lasso. Mythic Quest is pretty good too.

I've thought about trying Mythic Quest before. It looks like a cross between Silicon Valley and The Office. Forgot it existed until you mentioned it.

The showrunner is hoping for 80 one hour episodes of this. Looks to be quite a big project.

Got a link to the first six eps a couple days back, but am not sure if I'm going to check them out.

Spent over a year emailing various publicists while trying to do a production article on the series (as opposed to Apple stories on FOR ALL MANKIND and ON THE ROCKS, which came off quickly and without a hitch) and to date have gotten exactly nowhere, so you could say my enthusiasm has been on the wane for quite awhile

NO TIME TO DIE is the only other project that I have pursued longer and still managed to come up totally empty-handed on, despite sustained commitments from three outlets ... only thing these projects seem to have in common is the tendency to change publicists every 3 or 4 months. Hard to know how seriously to take these 'pros' when they tell you that the cinematographer is suddenly unavailable after you have been in the queue for over a year ... especially when you then contact the cinematographer direct, only to find out he hasn't even heard from UA PR this whole while, and has done all his interviews through Eon.)

streaming links no physical copies. And that goes to my computer, not my main TV (not that that matters since I don't have a 4K set right now.)
