Amazon UK is supposedly shipping to the US again, according to their site. They're allowing orders from the US, at least, though they're taking their time on shipping stuff out and the shipping options are the more expensive ones.

They’d have to redo all the effects like they did for TNG. Paramount did the math, not gonna happen.

Paramount is the biggest penny pinching studio so I'm not surprised.

CBS had the TV shows, not Paramount. But they're all one again, so it doesn't matter anymore.

Honestly, I wish things worked the following way... they could cut a couple episodes per season of these new shows and use the money to remaster the good shows. Unfortunately, that''s not the way things work.

There is not 4K to subscripe to (yet). The version on CBS All Access is Full HD with DV/HDR. Netflix streams Discovery in the same way.

Not to mention that 4K streams from streaming services is usually only marginally better than HD unless you have extremely good internet speeds. I have fiber and get around 700-800 Mbps and the difference and compression in resolution between HD and 4K is usually marginal at best. However, it's the HDR that makes a big difference IMHO.

I'm fine with Picard not getting a 4k...
It doesn't deserve the time, unfortunately.

I'm a big Star Trek fan, but I'll wait until this goes on sale down the road. I have been signing up for CBS All Access one month at a time, once each individual season is done or close to being done. Then, I just binge the current season, and cancel my subscription. It costs me $10 to watch each season. The only downside is waiting until the season is over, but it's not that big a deal for me. I'd rather save the money, and watch it all at once.

I tried that again for Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker and it was 8.58 pounds for the global priority shipping. That would basically eliminate my savings. Hopefully they can get back to their normal shipping options.

tried to watch it but it was late and the dynamic range from them speaking whisper quiet was hard to hear. Have to watch again in the day when I can crank it up.

I'll buy it but not at $47 (now $45).... $35 would be the most I'd pay for 10 episodes and that's pushing it.

It should be around $35 or so on release-day -- both Bull Moose and Amazon typically sell these Star Trek BD-seasons for around that price point once the date gets closer and closer (like both previous seasons of Discovery were).

I cancelled my pre-order. I'm pretty disgusted that they go back and they take a 1987 to 1994 Next Generation TV series and give it 7.1 sound and then they release a 2020 television series with 5.1 sound. And of course there's the matter of no 4K release and I'm not even sure if it was broadcast in 4k. Didn't the show cost Millions and they're like a 5.1 sound is all we need forget 7.1 forget Atmos. I know I'm being too picky but I'm just going to wait for a Black Friday sale and pick it up for cheap just on principle. By then I would have forgotten bits of it and it will be a fresher experience.

Adam 'mojo' Leibowitz (who worked on Star Trek the Motion Picture DE) insists, that doing visual updates and restorations for each series of DS9 and Voy etc will be less than the cost of one season of Discovery. He was campaigning very hard for this to happen.

I just watched this a few weeks ago finally and thought it was excellent. The negativity on the internet tends to annoy me in general, but it really annoyed me with this. Nothing's flawless, but this was good television with a great cast. Very happy with it and looking forward to the supplements.

Yeah, but the return on the investment to remaster The Next Generation was very disappointing. Spending even more to restore two less popular series wouldn't make sense for them, much as we'd all like to see it. A brand new season of the franchise is always going to be worth more than restoring old seasons.

I think my only real gripe with it was that the story it told could probably have been done in half the number of episodes.

It was beautifully shot though, and it's always a pleasure to see Patrick Stewart don the Picard role (not to mention Frakes, Sirtis, Spiner, Ryan et al).

I'm not a DISCO hater, but I preferred it to that.

TREK, STAR WARS and DOCTOR WHO all suffer the same issues - newer films/shows are never as good as the older stuff they pine for.

Are they not as good, or are they just less for you? My wife watched Picard with me and enjoyed it, and she hates the old stuff for being "slow and cheesy." A lot of people want sequels to be the same as the original, but I've never heard a creator say that was their goal. They usually want to do something new, something fresh and more relevant to the modern media landscape.

Picard felt like a modern serialized streaming show with a very 2019 message about globalism, diversity and tribal factions. I didn't really expect it to be anything else.
