It won't look "reference" but there's plenty of scope there to improve on the janky DVDs which almost look like they came from composhite sources or something. If the video stuff in Monty Python could be cleaned up to a rather respectable level then there's no reason why something 30 years younger won't also benefit. That assumes a similar level of care and competency of coursh, but hopefully Edgar will make sure they get this (W)right.

Can't wait.

I love this series, but I have my doubts a Blu-ray would be much of an upgrade. If and when it's released I'll be curious to read the reviews.

Don’t disagree Geoff. Just trying to head off the “<shock>It’s an upscale!</shock>” brigade at the pass.

Have never seen the UK DVDs, but I am rewatching my US set right now and it is GARBAGE video quality. Looks like VHS with digital artifacts.

Bring on the Blu!

Haven’t watched my DVD set in at least 10 years but been meaning to rewatch the show and just noticed it is now in Netflix and IMO it doesn’t look that bad.

Second series looks somewhat better than the first.

Rewatched the documentary. LOVE the ending! Perfect.

AI upscale probably. It might be seen as useful for something like this. At least there's less chance of it looking like the world Simon Pegg lives in is about to be burnt up by the sun.

"HD" version is on Netflix. Watched the first episode to see how decent it was and ended up watching all of series 1 (and then series 2 the night after).

Still a great series, full of brilliantly quirky characters. If this is the version they're slapping on disc then it's not bad. Certainly a step up from the DVDs.

Still my favourite character - Tyres

Oh, and this only went up in January, but a nice get together at the BFI for the 21st:

I watched both series over the last week and I agree it looks pretty good but then has been a very long time since I last watched the DVDs so don't really have anything to compare it against.

even if it's just a minor improvement, i will buy it. It's Spaced and it deserves it.

The Netflix version is 576p (and the bitrate is locked to <1mbps). Hopefully they’ll upscale the episodes to 1080p properly and not just slap SD masters onto discs as is.

When we see a 'Spaced' blu-ray release, hopefully it will make the most of the source, and maybe we'll see some retrospective content.
The other day I was watching Jessica Hynes in the 2nd series of 'There She Goes' on the iplayer. She's definitely an underrated actress.
A bit frustrating that series 1 isn't available on iplayer, or even on DVD (let alone blu-ray).

They would never just slap SD content on a Blu-Ray (only country that has releases like that seems to be Germany) and I am sure any release would be encoded as 1080i/50.

I hope they include the extra commentaries from the american DVD. i never heard them.

But it's Edgar Wright so of course. He ALWAYS has jampacked home releases, it's what he loves.

He's one of us

They do this with special features though - my Sony player will stretch out the aspect ratio sometimes because of the way it's encoded.

Special features are understandable as a lot are just copies of the content from the DVD, the whole point of this release would be to present them in a new fresh way to entice fans to part with their money so even if they go the Faulty Towers route where they are actually worse than the DVD they will still be a native HD encode.

i wish SD blu-rays were more common outside of Germany and the US

i have a bunch of dvds that i wouldn't mind getting rid of if i could still own them in SD form on blu-ray because they'd take up less space and with a majority of them being US produced then atleast i wouldn't have to suffer with PAL50 speed up either because they'd be NTSC60
