Yep, I knew it. As I stated in an earlier post, I suspected the Catwoman Showcase short would not be included in this collection and would stay exclusive to Batman: Year One. It only makes sense, because it's essentially a continuation of Catwoman's storyline from that particular movie.

Also, it should be noted that Catwoman:Chase Me and Batman: Strange Days, despite being shorts, were not under the banner of "DC Showcase," so odds were against their inclusion.

As far as the shorts that were included, the only one I really liked was Death. That was one of the most beautiful animated pieces DC ever did. I also love that as a fan of Jae Lee, he did the art for the portrait in that short.

DC Showcase – Batman: Death in the Family will be available on Blu-ray (USA $24.98 SRP) and Digital (19.99 SRP). The Blu-ray features a Blu-ray disc with all of the shorts in hi-definition, including the fully-interactive, extended-length Batman: Death in the Family, plus a digital version of the four other 2019-2020 DC Showcase shorts. The Digital distribution features the Batman: Death in the Family extended-length short in a non-interactive format (pre-assembled version of the story, entitled Under the Red Hood: Reloaded), along with the other four 2019-2020 DC Showcase shorts, and three other non-interactive versions of the Batman: Death in the Family (entitled Jason Todd’s Rebellion, Robin’s Revenge and Red Hood’s Reckoning) as bonus features (Note: not all Digital retailers offer bonus features with purchase). The Blu-ray also offers approximately five minutes of additional content within the Batman: Death in the Family story that is not included in the Digital version.

Yeah, it's a bit vague.

It appears the blu-ray may only be the interactive version with all the optional branchings, while the digital will have four non-interactive versions which play straight through.

I assume the exclusive five minutes of additional content included on the blu-ray may just be some minor bridging scenes between the main story and the optional paths the viewer chooses.

Well, you see... various mediums have various options creating alternate choices featuring various versions of the same story but with various options of alternate endings thus creating alternate timelines happening in various continuities which make up alternate worlds or alternate universes parallel to the original but each varying slightly from each other, but you can choose which you'd like to view or be a part of by choosing from the various options given to you within the various mediums provided.

Death in the Family has already been done with Under the Red Hood so it would take quite a hook for me to get it.

Having it be a prequel to B v S would do the trick.

I think the hook is the interactive gimmick and the alternate takes on who Jason Todd becomes, or rather could have become. But I agree -- as I said in an earlier post, Under the Hood pretty much covered what matters most, so I'm not sure this is going to be something that's necessary for everyone. I'm still on the fence myself about whether or not I need to own it.

Runtime is officially 170 minutes.

But I'm pretty sure that's including ALL the different cutscenes, so each individual playthrough will be significantly shorter than that.

We should also consider that some of that 170 minutes runtime may not just be alternate scenes, but also the additional Showcase shorts that are included.

Superman/Shazam is listed as 63 minutes long, but in actuality it is only a little over 24 minutes, while the rest of the time counted is made up of about 39 minutes of the other Showcase shorts that are on the disc.

Just watched this. Nothing new here. Save your money, or if you don't already have Under the Red Hood, buy that instead. This is just an abbreviated version of a much better film with a choose your own path gimmick. Most of it is just an edited down Under the Red Hood with some very minor new scenes added.

[Show spoiler]Not Superman, but Clark Kent. The whole Death in the Family feature is Bruce Wayne telling the Under the Red Hood events to an unseen person in a diner. You discover at the end that the person Bruce is talking to is Clark.

This final twist is highlighted by a nice bit of dialogue between the two characters, but it's nothing earth shattering, nor is it as emotionally impactful as the final scene in Under the Red Hood when Jason Todd first dons the Robin costume and declares "This is the best day of my life."
