I bought the current release Blu-ray of this movie last week, so, you're welcome! I will be double dipping. I especially love how the make the robots work.

The design of the robots is ingenious. I was stunned when I learned how they did it. They really did an extremely convincing job with them. I actually wondered for years if they really built functioning robots for this film.

Outstanding film. One of my favorites. Chokes me up every time, and the drones are awesome. Terrific production design. Great music, too, and a powerful perofrmance by Bruce Dern.

It's too bad it didn't get a 4k restoration, but this will do nicely I think. I have the Eureka but will definitely grab this one.

Side note, I was watching the excellent documentary Spaceship Earth last night - it’s about the Biosphere 2 project in Arizona in the 90’s which grew out of a 70’s commune and they showed clips of Silent Running and mentioned it was an inspiration for the Biosphere project.

Definitely worth checking out the documentary. It’s available to rent on Amazon.

Can’t wait for this disc to get here!

I'm glad Arrow is releasing this. I was watching it on Peacock a couple weeks ago and turned it off so that I could pop this in when I pick it up.

This is a great 70's film. Might be slow for modern tastes but it's a personal favorite.

Doug Trumbull did a live Q&A here for a 2001 showing but I just wanted to ask about Silent Running.

It's really sort of a pleasant ecological viewing experience. I haven't seen it since I was a teen, and I really want to revisit it. It's the kind of 70s sci fi that feels like a wonderfully painted paperback book cover brought to life.

Whoa! I hadn’t yet gotten the MOC disc so this is great news and a new master with new extras makes it even better!!
For those on the fence this is proper intelligent SF and one of the best films ever made in the genre.

Pre-ordered!

Blind buy for me...but since it was Joel Hodgson's direct inspiration when he was conceiving MST3K back in the day I think it's a safe bet!

Plus, I watched a trailer on YouTube and the visual style looks fantastic and right up my alley!

- Bruce Dern
- inspiration for MST3K
- director did visual effects for 2001: A Space Odyssey
- early 70s Sci Fi that slow burns

...it's checking all of my boxes!

I figure since I loved Robinson Crusoe On Mars then I'll love this!

Black Sunday is another Bruce Dern classic that's overdue for a proper Blu-ray release. I hope it will be coming soon.

Love Bruce Dern, though at times I feel like I'm the only one who wants to see Down Periscope get a blu-ray release.... Silent Running is looking great!

Does anyone know the story of the 6-channel audio on the 70mm release of Silent Running? My assumption is that it was Todd-AO format (5 front, 1 rear), with the left center and right center channels either blank or mixed from the adjacent channels, meaning it was really 4.0. Was there really a 4 or 6-channel stereo mix, or was it just mono recorded to the magnetic 6-track on the 70mm? If a stereo mix exists/existed, then why isn't it listed as being included on this release?

Arrow knocked another one of my favorite 70's sci-fi thrillers, The Andromeda Strain, out of the park so I'm excited for another round of 70's goodness looking great on disc. Funny how big studios are seemingly incapable of producing high-quality transfers themselves most of the time but little 'ol independents like Arrow churn them out almost flawlessly (give or take a framing issue here and there).

This is the only way I've seen Silent Running before. It will be nice to see a proper 1080p transfer.

I love this Film. I wonder why it's so expensive. $36. I wonder what the list is - it's not even on their site. Single Disc (according to Amazon). I guess Arrow couldn't License it for Europe?

MSRP is $39.95, same as most of Arrow's standard editions. Eureka still has the rights to it in the UK as far as I know (still available for sale on their site at least).

Thanx for the info. Pardon my ignorance... But the version on the Eureka site is different, isn't it? Or just a different cover?

The Eureka release was released years before this upcoming Arrow release.
