I picked up one of those VCI DVDs during some internet sale... I assumed since the case had both English and Spanish on it (the site had pictures) that it would have English subtitles... I was so let down when I put the disc in and discovered I was wrong.

The Aztec Productions catalog is a mess of battered and incomplete film elements, 35mm subtitled release prints, and 16mm English dubbed prints (in the case of 1959's Santa Claus, where VCI used a combination of that and a beat up Spanish print to reconstruct the longer Spanish version for their Blu). I heard most of the early Santo movies only survive in 16mm and 35mm release prints, while some of the more popular ones are patchwork mixes of OCN/IPs and faded & dubbed archival prints.

So long as we get Santo & Blue Demon vs The Monsters, i will be happy. Definitely my favourite out of all 52 Santo movies.
Would love the first Huracán Ramírez movie (1953) & El Enmascarado De Plata (1954) too (which was actually supposed to be the first Santo movie but he turned it down). These are my favourites of the genre.

Wouldn't be the last time there was a Santo imposter in the movies. The bat-sh*t crazy turkish film 3 Dev Adam (1973) also has a Santo imposter in it...not to mention an evil spiderman.

Yeah, that was disappointing; I want to say they re-released some of the Aztec Mummy movies in the same fashion. I've been a pretty big fan of VCI over the years, but I was let down by those releases.

Sadly, it doesn't look like it. No mention of original language only dubs (including those newly done ones). But hey, at least we get a slipcover...

It looks like a nice set, but yeah all English language like so many other Mexican film releases from VCI.

Nice of them to get that info out before anyone had a chance to get excited about this release. All the titles in this box have had serviceable English subtitled Spanish language DVD releases, most from Rise Above Entertainment. Now can someone please license The Brainiac for Blu-ray before VCI get their grubby paws on it?

The new dubs are so disappointing but on the bright side the intros and booklet look promising and the existence of scans is amazing. The fact that it’s in English leads me to hope a more respectable label can get the rights to the original dub

The English dubs only is disappointing, but I really want some Santo - so I'll probably hold my nose and pick up the set, hang onto my old Rise Above DVDs and hope that we get a better collection down the road (or that K/L delivers the goods).

Didn't K/L announce a couple of Santo movies, only to later reveal they won't actually be releasing them?

I can only assume they lost the rights to VCI.
