Average DVD release review for Mixed Nuts. Can’t see anyone in a rush to release it on Blu. Would of happened by now. Maybe next year or in 5 years time?

What's going on with "All of Me"? Not even in terms of a Blu-ray release, but just generally. It's been treated horribly, probably the worst of any film in Martin's filmography. It's only been released on DVD 3 times, once 25 years ago with a positively Jurassic encode, that same disc was bundled with "L.A. Story" and "Novocain" in 2007 and then, to date, the final indignity came in 2012 when it was stuffed into one of those Walmart dump bin 8-Packs with a random grab bag of 7 other forgettable comedies. It's on streaming, but it's not even on a paid service.
It's in the rotation of films that're occasionally free to watch via YouTube's official movie channel and right now it's currently on Tubi. The source is HD (allegedly), but it's 4:3 and appears to be the same unrestored source used to create the 1999 DVD. A theatrical print scanned in by a teenager with a 15 year old DSLR would look better than this studio created master. The thing that really pushed me to wonder all this was the new two-part Steve Martin doc on Apple. I was watching it and they played clips from "All of Me" in it an even there the footage looked like complete garbage. Why was this film been kicked so hard for so long? It's a legitimate gem and one of Martin's better collaborations with Reiner. Why does it still look so bad? Is there a rights issue? Is lionsgate under the impression people just don't care? Is the OCN lost or something? What gives? |
