True but how much choice do they have? All computers come pre loaded with it and the VAST majority of people don`t even know that linux exists let alone how to install it or even use it. That leaves crappy overpriced underdeveloped apple computers...yay.

I have Xbox 360 and (knock on wood) so far I haven't had a problem with mine. And for the purpose of playing video games, I do prefer it to the PS3 (which I also have, but mainly use for Blu-Ray movies).

Having said that, given the ongoing problems with the Xbox 360 RROD issues, I don't see why anyone in their right mind would use it for anything other than gaming. I really couldn't see myself watching movies on it, regardless of the format said movies are in. Why would I use a system that is known for failure for a purpose that can be accomplished through other already existing, much more reliable machines?

Gaming is one thing, since there are many games for 360 that you can't get elsewhere, and you need the system to play them. But watching movies on it just seems like a pointless waste.

I dunno. Ive been using XP for 6 years now and not once had it crash on me or had a problem. I think people just like to jump on the "hate MS bandwagon".

When they come out with the next generation of Xbox (presumably with Blu-ray) I'll gladly consider it on its own merits. Original Xbox was amazing.

To be honest, with how crappy the HD-DVD add on is, I'd just assume not have people buying an equally crappy Blu-ray one.

Really? The add on is fully 1080p while most HD DVD Players are not. How is it crappy exactly? Are you speaking from experience or just FUD?

From a PS3 standpoint, it will not be a good idea to have a Blu-ray add on for the xbox 360. The PS3 has an edge over the 360 in this department, it would not be good to lose the edge.

This wasn't directed at me, but...

The add-on's picture quality (as tested by ExtremeTech) is crap. It fails deinterlacing and cadence tests, etc. 1080p is meaningless if the video quality is sub-par. Also, ALL audio has to be downmixed to DD or DTS... even on models with HDMI output.

Add to that the lifespan of XBox 360's seem to run anywhere from 2 minutes (on the low end) to 2 years (on the high end), and I'm not sure why ANYONE would want to use the machine any more than necessary (for playing games).

Plus, why do we really want Microsoft in our camp, again?

Ok, but you have a reason. BUt just because Excel messes up on you means everything does? lol

Also the site is BLU-RAY.com, not SONY.com. Anything that increases Blu-Ray sales is good. If that includes putting a BD player on the 360 or in a microwave, then its good for BD and if you truly are here to support BD, then anything that gets it into more homes is GOOD.

I disagree. What would having the other format at home have to do with adding a blu-ray player to an xbox?

I'm for this because I want the installed base of blu to increase, driving up supply of blu movies. I've never seen an HD-DVD, nor played a 360.

PS3 may lose some competitive advantage, but there are already more games than I can play in a lifetime. But my thirst for blu movies can not be quenched!

Exactly! It seems like some people are here as just sony fans and not BD fans.

+1
The faster the install base grows the sooner the studios will bring out the big gun catalog titles (think LOTR & Star Wars), as well as the more obscure and artsy titles, which will in turn help to grow the format faster.

We just gotta get over the install base "hump". The sooner that happens, the better, IMO.

I've lurked here for some time, and started posting only recently.

but seems to me that we are splitting into two camps:

1) The more the merrier - go blu!

2) *** those other guys

I don't resent those in camp 2. It's made up largely of people who helped deliver a victory to blu with their devotion. I just want them to understand that those of us in the first camp are not necessarily dual-format and are every bit as passionate about our blu movies!

Glad to see I'm not alone!

Aha! Blockbuster.com is shipping 3:10 Yuma (Blu-ray) as we speak!

These online petitions are useless. Let's stop using them before they get out of hand on these forums.
