You can still use your PS4 version of Spider-Man with Sony PlayStation Wireless headsets on PS5 but you won’t get the 3D Audio calibration signal. |

But is it better to use the 3D Pulse Headset on PS5 with PS4 games or a PS4 headset on PS5 with PS4 games?

Gave up trying to snag the Steelseries Arctis 7x from their site as I missed restocks and just tired of refreshing and trying to get stock after all the time and energy spent doing so to score a PS5 and XSX. Just bit the bullet and nabbed some off ebay for a $50 mark up (seems scalpers are all over these as there are a bunch on there and most at a bigger mark up than that). Hate doing that, but tired of looking and tired of playing XSX games with headphones plugged into the controller as I get intermittent static and drop outs. Will try and sell my V2 PS Gold's to recoup the markup. Orders the leather ear pads from Steelseries too as I don’t tend to like fabric ear pads.

I guess it's best to the use 3D Pulse Headset on PS5 for PS4 games unless it's a game with a dev tailored audio profile. If someone thinks differently, let me know.

Finally got my Steelseries Arctis 7x Headset after some USPS shipping delays. Link to the product page for details for those interested: https://steelseries.com/gaming-headsets/arctis-7x
Overall I'm very pleased with them. I'm not audiophile but they definitely sound better than my Sony Gold V2's I'd been using with PS4/5, Switch (docked) and PC or my old Sony MDR-XB950 wired headphones I'd been using with XSX (plugged into controller) and Switch in Handheld mode. 24 hours of battery life (rated, not tested yet) will be nice after the 6ish with the Golds. It's nice to have something that works with all they above by just moving the USB-C dongle (and USB-C to A adapter cable where needed) around. Dongle has a toggle for Xbox and USB (latter for everything but Xbox which uses a different frequency). Headset is comfy as well, really like the ski band adjustment system. I replaced the cloth Airweave ear cups with the leather ones I'd ordered from Steelseries and already received as I don't like cloth ear cups. I did see when looking up a video to make sure I removed and installed them correctly that there's a company called Wicked Cushions that makes ear cups that fit that look a bit nicer for $7 or so more than Steelseries. The Steelseries ones are fine and pretty comfy though so I'll stick with them. Steelseries: https://steelseries.com/gaming-acces...terial=leather Wicked Cushions: https://wickedcushions.com/collections/gaming-ear-pads I also ordered a couple shorter USB-C to A adapter cables (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1) both as the one it comes with is long to leave dangling in sight on my XSX (where it will be most of the time) and I wanted to just leave one there, one on my PC and one on my Switch dock to just have to move the dongle around. Overall I'm very pleased, though I haven't played with friends yet so can't comment on the mic. Only downside I could see for some is the max volume. It's more than loud enough for me, but some reviews said they thought it wasn't loud enough and I do definitely have the volume on the headset closer to max (with devices at 100%) than I did my Sony Golds. PS5 wise, the main downsides vs one of the Sony headsets is the game audio/chat mix wheel doesn't work. It works on Xbox, but on PS have to use the system quick menu slider and like all third party headsets the console won't auto switch between headset and TV/AVR audio when you turn the headset on and off. Have to use the quick menu options for both of those. Not a big deal to me, but may bother some. Last edited by dmaul1114; 01-08-2021 at 03:40 PM. |

I've had my pair of HD280 pros for 11 years now and they still sound as good as the day I got them. But I got them for their relatively flat frequency response for sound editing. Though they sound wonderful in all applications I've used them in, I would recommend getting a pair with a punchier low end for gaming and movies. That's why I picked up the Hyper X Cloud Flight and the Sony Gold headset which have both sounded much better for games and movies so far. Sure there are better headsets out there for more money but for a ~$100 option, they are incredible.
One thing to note, though the Gold headset works on the PS5, it's clearly not optimized yet since there's a delay in response to adjusting levels and the on screen graphic, though incredibly useful, is not accurate and doesn't always pop up. The headset levels are also capped prematurely imo. I use a DAC for my Hyper X set connected directly to my TV so I don't have that issue with those however, they have to be wired that way. |

I decided to try out the earpads from Wicked Cushions as the leather ones I bought for my Arctis 7x direct form Steelseries (as well as the fabric ones that came with it) were a bit small (didn't fully fit over my ears) and a bit softer/squisher than I like which means a looser fit.
The Wicked Cushion one's are great and well worth the $8 or so more than the Steelseries ones I bought--wish I'd known about them before buying those. Better quality leather, a tad thicker and stiffer foam so they make the headset fit better and move around less, and they're a bit bigger with a bigger earhole. That means they actually cover my whole ear which is better for both comfort and blocking outside noise. Super pleased with them. The Wicked Cushions gaming ear pads fit a ton of different gaming headsets from Steelseries, HyperX, Turtle Beach and Razer so I highly recommend them as I imagine they're a nice upgrade on any stock pads. Moot for those of you with the Sony Headsets of course. https://wickedcushions.com/collections/gaming-ear-pads Last edited by dmaul1114; 01-21-2021 at 02:58 AM. |

Thanks for the recommendation, dmaul! I've never heard of Wicked Cushions until now and I've been thinking about getting new pads for my HyperX headset. Comfort and longevity are most important for me and it sounds like these will be great for both! Also love the colored cushions. Might get the racer ones.

I rely on my Sennheiser’s because you can buy authentic ear cups from them. Usually 3rd party resellers sell them. I recently bought 4 pairs. Each is good for a years of wear. Last edited by Derb; 01-21-2021 at 08:11 AM. |

They have videos for how to install for various gaming headsets (and other headphones, but doesn’t look like they sell any for Sennheiser). https://wickedcushions.com/pages/gaming-ear-pad-videos I’m guessing these will be good for more than a year as they have a 1 year warranty (and can add a second year free by registering them/creating some rewards account per a card that came in the box) and they’re so much sturdier and firmer than any ear pads I’ve had before. |

Unfortunately my Senns are Custom to Sennheiser. Not really a bad thing. You just have to pay more. The velour cushions are my preference for long listening periods. Still rocking my 2015 HDR 185’s. That lineup of 165-195 were great quality. Have a new backup of a 175 model if my 185’s ever die. lol |

If any one is looking for to buy from Wicked Cushions. Here's a 20% off code I just noticed on the warranty card. It's generic and not limited use. "THANKS20"
If any one is looking to buy the Steelseries Arctis 7x it's currently back in stock and $131.99 with code "FORM" at checkout. Should work for the 7p (only buy if you're sure yo won't need a headset that also works on Xbox), but those are out of stock at the moment. |

I've been back and forth on upgrading for a while but I think I'm just going to wait until my TB 520's crap out on me before pulling the trigger. The only issue are the earmuffs peeling. Battery life is okay for one long gaming session.
Would love to jump into the Steelseries brand at some point though. |

Yeah, I’m super happy with my 7Xs. I’m not an audiophile, so take it with a grain of salt, but the sound quality is a big jump over the Sony Gold V2. Build quality and comfort is much better as well. Especially compared to the V1 Gold’s as I went through 2 pairs of those (pads started peeling and the plastic broke) before getting the V2s. Those seemed to be holding up ok, but only had them a few months before getting the 7x as I wanted to upgrade to something that would work wirelessly on both XSX and PS5. Gave my V2 Golds to a friend whose V1s were falling apart.
Just checked to see if TB 520s were one’s that were compatible with the Wicked Cushions pads, but no dice. They fit several TB models, but not those. |
