The features list on that Tascam web link indicate 2 HDMI ports, a 2.0 and 2nd 1.4 audio only. This back panel pic only has one. Could just be because it’s a prototype w/ no serial number.
Also curious which make and model DAC’s they’re using for analog. This could be close to the Oppo 205 and Panasonic UB 9000 for basic all around UHD performance. |

I thought we were still discussing a new 4K player from post #1.
Didn’t realize Lee made a switcheroo in the post above mine. ![]() EDIT: Lee’s post was deleted, it was the rear of a similar Bluray only player. He’s reposted down below with the rear of the new 4K player. END EDIT: Last edited by gkolb; 11-17-2020 at 02:48 AM. |

At one time a fair amount of pro gear in the music, TV and movie industry in the US. Fairly good stuff with a reasonable price.
In the earlier days of 5.1 or 7.1 sound the Tascam DA-88 was a de-facto mastering machine. 8 channels of digital, time code and computer control. We had one at work and it just did its thing. Like most things its use got replaced by Sonic Solutions then Avid Pro Tools. [Show spoiler]

I wish JohnAV would come back here to the thread. He’s pretty good at figuring out which SoC is used in some players, and figuring out the DAC’s that get used too.
Like I said above, this rear has most of the outputs of the top Oppo or Panasonic 4K players. It even has a USB 3 port on the rear! (FWIW it doesn’t have the front HDMI of the Oppo). And it might be $100’s less than the Panny 9000. |

This Tascam player looks good except it sucks the USB input is on the back of the player. The BD player model has it on front. |

We need a professional review for the Tascam BD-MP4K. The Tascam has very nice input and output jacks on the back. Currently professionally reviewers from Sound and Vision magazine and Widescreen Review magazine are using the reference OPPO UDP-203 that was released back in 2016. I really like some of the features of the Tascam according to the current spec sheet. It use to be that only Panasonic Blu-ray players offered SD, SDHC, and SDXC card support. Both USB 3.0 and SDXC are supported from one 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player which has never been done before. Plus there is 1Gbps ethernet on the Tascam that OPPO and Panasonic also offer.
However the original OPPO UDP-203 had 3 USB inputs (2 USB 3.0 ports in the rear and 1 USB 2.0 port in the front). Once and awhile 720P HD media is being released on USB sticks instead of Blu-ray discs, and having the USB port in the front of the player is ideal to play those types of packaged USB media on the OPPO. The Tascam should have had a second USB port on the front of the player right next to the SDXC card slot. However the SD card slot is nice to play homemade 4K movies and still photos that came from a digital camera. All fat file formats up to exFAT and even Windows NTFS file format is supported just like the OPPO UDP-203. However, for someone that has a large collection of SACD’s and DVD-Audio discs they will just stick with their existing OPPO UDP-203, Sony UBP-X1100ES, or Sony UBP-X800M2 for around $249.99. Is there any chance that we can get a firmware update to the Tascam BD-MP4K in order to offer SACD and DVD-Audio support? SACD and DVD Audio support is one thing that is needed to see existing OPPO, Pioneer 4K, and Sony 4K Blu-ray player owners consider buying this Tascam model. Also both OPPO and Panasonic 4K Blu-ray players support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR, and hopefully Tascam will offer that feature also. Also what is the official date that one can purchase the Tascam BD-MP4K in the USA and what would be the list price of the player when launched? Last edited by HDTV1080P; 11-18-2020 at 09:37 PM. |
