There's some big problems with mass produced boots, even if they someday crack BD+ wide open

Every Blu-ray production line is fingerprinted, they'll know who's moonlighting the second a copy gets back to the BDA, and shut them down

Most pressed bootlegs are done in legit factories after hours, and the ones that aren't are made in dusty warehouses, barely adaquate for DVD, impossible for blu

Aaaah, the dreaded ROM Mark. The powers that be will always find new and ingenious ways to curb our right to backup our own property... I personally find it big-brotherish. Those who truly value the work that was put into making their favorite movies will always buy or at least rent.

IMHO, the only way to really stop (or slow down) bootlegging is to deliver high-quality films with audio, video and supplements that kick ass. Stop bootlegging on the demand side of the equation, not the supply side.

If a ridiculous ROM Mark or AACS or BD+ or whatever crap they're putting on discs will make them feel more secure, whatever... just know that its gonna get broke again and again. That will never change. If you give us fargin' icehole BD-25 and Dolby Digital, best believe that bootlegging will flourish. However... give us BD-50s, DTS-MA, TrueHD, BD-Live and supplements out the bunghole, and we will buy!

On topic (since it was bumped) It's human nature to "steal" from behind the guise of a computer...... Another reason media is so expensive is the costly R&D and encryption to keep people from stealing it....

Piracy drives up costs... plain and simple... but people who buy pirated movies are buying them based on the cheap price-tag.... so I'd suspect lower-resolution downloads will eliminate the market for those who pirate physical discs

I think the days of the shady guy selling DVDs outside of the liquor store are coming to an end.

Some people don't care for quality at all. Like my friend for instance he has a 30 dollar no-name DVD player from Walmart, still has VHS's, bootlegged DVDs, watches tones of youtube videos, and does want an HDTV.

Strange to ressurect this ancient post. I don't think we will see many bootlegged Blu-rays anytime soon, but it is more likely that we will see DVDs posing as BDs first. Also be on the lookout for "Hi-Res" disks that are actually only SD DVDs.

Anyone I know who downloads movies doesn't give a rats ass what the resolution is as long as the picture is stable. The file can be 500mb for all they care, once they have watched it its time to dl another one.

What i'm trying to say is bootleggers are just interested in being entertained, not geeked.

Too expensive to profit from bootleg BD's. The price of a blank BD is about the price of a new release DVD, but to make a profit, the bootlegger would have to either really be on their hustle, or sell them for about $20 to make some kind of profit. So I don't see this happening for a while.

Sometimes I wonder if those Blu-ray "rips" are really anything more than a rip form HDTV. It is easy to record an HD channel... easier than a Blu-ray.
I don't know, but I also highly doubt these Blu-ray rips will be as high quality as a Blu-ray since they would have to be HUGE!
It will happen, I am sure, but it should not be "mainstream" for a few years.

I highly doubt there are any real Blu-ray bootlegs out right now that are not the occasional rips, but definitely not on disc. Too expensive and hard to do right now.

But seriously, Blu-ray is the most secure format out there. I think it's a sigh of relief for many companies.

I don't think there will be many actual bootlegged BDs.
You will most likely see DVDs being sold as BDs, like the LotR movies that were on eBay a while back.
And yes, there are plenty of .mkv BDrips available to download. You can also get 720p HDTV copies of movies that haven't hit either format, and HDDVDrips. I'm watching a 720p copy of Saving Private Ryan right now. If it was out on Blu I would buy it on day one though.

Yeah, I was gonna say that too. But there aren't as many BD packs falling off trucks as there may be blank DVDs.

I have no problem with getting a bootleg as long as it's DVD quality if I want the movie at my disposal...

however, more times than not I end up buying the Blu version anyways...

but if I want to see the movie...I'm going to see it...

I'm sure that the people that worked hard to produce that movie appreciate your bootleg purchases.

Don't worry about those people, their bank accounts get more every month than you get in a whole lifetime anyways.

Default BD is already broken - smell the coffee and drink it.

Hey All !!!

I have a friend that I had a very good laugh at his expense.

He works for a gas company and sells meters to apt. building / condo owners. The angle on this sales pitch is so it becomes an individuals responsiblity on personal usesage of hydro...hence saving the building owner $$$$$$$.

ANyhoow his retarded statement to me was "because the meters will be installed in each apt. unit - pirated movies producers would be stopped in their tracks because of this meter."

WTF ! I laughed at his stupid ass ! how the innocent can be led to slaughter.

There is a resistor device that had been developed just for these meters so one can save on hydro or hide the type of useage one can do at an apt.

Now on a simlilar note please tell me why BD is not crackable NOW ? Not in weeks or monthes - like right NOW.... hey all this is pirated crap is billion dollar industry that the smatter cons use to funnel $$$$$ .. do u think for an instant that its impossible to crack or that it will take a long time to hack ?LOL ! !! keep thinking that ....whatever.

Wake up and smell the reality - its breakable and its broken....

J.

When I was young I agreed with you - but as I got older I realized it just isn't worth goin to jail over...might as well do the right thing and buy the media for me to enjoy.
