Default Bootlegs?????

I have never in my life(and no im not lying)ever bought a bootleg VHS or DVD. Quite frankly, i could never watch anything with PQ like that. In fact i dont even allow my friends to play their bootlegs in my house. But my question is this, do you think bootlegers will invade the Blu-ray format the same way they destroyed the DVD format?

P.S. If your a bootleger, you're not allowed to post a comment

Its more likely that HD DVD bootlegs will come out before BD bootlegs.
BD has BD+, AACS, and BDwatermark to protect against bootlegs.

As an actual Barbary pirate, I resent the hearsay that bootleggers have brought to us who actually wear boots on our legs. Blasphemy, the lot of it.

I really wonder about the piracy warnings on Blu-ray movies. Simply because most blu-ray owners don't want cheap bootlegs, they want the highest quality. Bootlegs go against what makes Blu-ray what it is.

I do, however, see "Blu-Ray Ripz" on torrent sites, but looking in the description, it is a 720p rip, not 1080p. I have yet to see 1080p bootlegs really take off. Until then, I don't think it will.

But everything is breakable. I think this will not become a problem until Blu-rays are as commonplace as DVDs.

Another reason to why HD-DVD bootlegs are more plausible is that they probably will fit on a BDR 25GB which is much cheaper than a BDR 50GB. Re-encoding takes both time, effort and lose quality.

Most people also have Blu-ray so titles not possible to get on Blu-ray have a higher risk of being bootlegged. Do you hear that Paramount and Universal?

There will always be attempts to bootleg. However, we will find that the level of bootlegging and success will be on the decline. Sure, you could rip a Blu-ray movie but the whole process will be so daunting to most people that they won't bother with it (for now).

I have seen a bunch of "ripped" Blu-ray movies ready to download. Just the movie with one audio track comes out to about 9GB. I read that this is a certain file format I've never heard about and not just an easy "to DVD" burn.
It is like this with everything, be it music, software or movies... they show of some new copy protection and maybe a month later (at the most) someone has cracked it...

believe it or nor HDDVDs and Blu-Rays are already being ripped and placed on the net in the #########, they are VERY large files and the bd media used to burn these are very expensive so there is no cost advantage to it yet, but when theres a will theres a way, its bound to happen.
IMO

I think you're talking of the MKV files. Those are what I see a lot of the Blu-ray rips in, and I've seen the 8-10GB files on torrent sites. No one really wants them. A 9GB file that is really only playable on a PC? Even the episodes of Heroes, 24, House, etc. that are 1.2 GB in 720p are not as popular. I think it's due to the need to seed something back. You're not going to find enough other people who want the rip for you to get the 1:1 ratio on upload. I speak as a power user of torrents, very few want Blu-Ray rips, they opt for a lower quality, because it is quicker and still free.

If MKV is able to be readily output to HDTVs, then bootlegging may be viable. The technology will catch up, but until then, no one wants the MKV rips. Even an MKV rip somehow converted and put onto a BD25 disc would probably not move real well, and is too much of a hassle as it is.

Until it is easier to transfer over the internet, or easier to get to a TV (either by burning to Blu-Ray discs or a player that does MKV), this won't take off. Never mind the hassle to crack it in the first place. That needs to come down.

They'll go after the HD-DVDs first. Easier to crack, but I think it still has the MKV file format.

I doubt it's likely you will see those types of Bootlegs on Either format anytime soon, if ever. HD-DVD drives(Recorders)? By the time they are available the format will be dead and forgotten. Blu-Ray Recorders are available, but it is cost prohibitive and probably will be for a while.

How possible is it for an exact replica of the BD disc? What are those called? Like image files or something?

Piracy is inevitable on any popular consumer format, but if any format is going to minimize piracy it's Blu-ray. What the studios were really concerned about were the commercial pirates(mostly originating out of Asia) who had actual dvd factories at their disposal and who mass produced pirated dvds. This will be much tougher to do with BD as the watermark will tell them what factories are producing the bootlegs. And the actual size of BD files make them impractical for torrent trading and long term digital storage.

I never understood why people would want a bootlegged Blu. I pay the price so I can get the best quality.

If done right you'll get the same quality, thats the case with DVDs. I am sure it will be for pirated BDs as well
