Best Bond (and a woman's always right):
Connery Second Best: Craig The third best gets crowded, and there is a large space between second and third. On Roger Moore: I heard him once at a lecture. He was talking about his Bond films, then someone in the audience asked him about his role as Ambassador to the United Nations Children's Fund. He answered: "Now wait a minute, up to now we have only been talking about my role as James Bond, we're talking making movies, having fun and making a lot of money, but if you ask about the United Nations Children's fund, you're now talking about my real work. That's my real job. That's what I really do." He went on to talk about the work he's done with the United Nations. ... it changed the way I think about Roger Moore. I can't say anything bad about him. |

Most people don't know this, but United Artists wanted Burt Reynolds to play the role of James Bond.
Cuby was dead set on having a Brit play him and as the man with the rights to Fleming's novels, except for Thunderball, it was his call; United Artists gave in. Cubby was choosing between Michael Caine and Sean Connery. Connery won the role. He had also considered Roger Moore at the time, but "The Saint" was starting on TV right as Dr. No was to be filmed and Cubby didn't want the two roles to be in the public's eye at the same time. The TV Series finished in 1969, so when it came time to find a new Bond for 1973's Live and Let Die, Moore was Broccoli's ONLY choice. Moore also took Cubby's decision after 1985's A View To A Kill to find a new Bond very hard; the two were close. Connery and Broccoli were not close by the time Moore took over and Connery was the only Bond to not attend Broccoli's funeral. Thunderball was to be the first Bond film and it was the story Cubby most wanted to use to bring Bond into the public eye, but problems with the rights forced a few Bonds to come before it. Cubby's autobiography is an excellent read indeed - I'd recommend it to any Bond fan. It is called "When The Snow Melts" The last Bond picked by Cubby was Pierce Brosnan. He was able to see the success of Goldeneye shortly before dying in 1996 of heart failure. |

I really liked "The Man With The Golden Gun", The Spy Who Loved Me" & "Moonraker" but the special effects really SUCKED.
These three along with "Live & Let Die" could all use a redux. Bring back JAWS....I love that guy |

cant wait to see if they write the theme tune to include the title...sing that one then, Dame Flamin' Shirley!
I liked Craigs Bond, of them all, i think Connery was the best, then i suppose Dalton , the craig, moore and brosnan last, though they were all good, so last isnt a bad thing. i havent counted lazenby as he only did one, same as David Niven, even if it was tongue in cheek... |

The problem I have with Brosan( and it really is not his fault) is that his Bond films got progressively worse. There was so much potential after GoldenEye and it just went downhill. I was disappointed when I heard they were not bringing him back because he never got to do a truly great Bond movie like Connery and Moore.
My disappointment faded when I saw Casino Royale, but I hope that this time the movies will get better with Craig. |

Not much of a life if you think referring to things in a derogatory manner as "gay" is acceptable.

I don't want to bash on anyone, but it does seem that the discussions on this board have sadly fallen in quality recently. From derogatory and juvenile comments, to people making inappropriate comments about recently deceased actors (and showing more concern for the fate of the next Batman movie than for that young actor's family), its become an increasingly less civil place to discuss movies and Blu-ray than it used to be. I'm all for more people joining the board and engaging in discussions, but this isn't a videogame system "smackdown" board, where berating people who disagree with you or using derogatory or insulting language is accepted. Anyway, just my $.02 Anyway, I'm giving Craig and the filmmakers this next film to convince me that this new direction for Bond is really a good thing. I think the old-style Bond had gone on for so long, that its okay to try to reinvent the series (putting aside reservations many have about moving away from Fleming's direction). But, Casino Royale, while having some great scenes (especially the opening chase) didn't convince me they had it right. We'll see if the next one does. |
