The original trilogy is excellent, didn't need anymore. Land came out, and it was OK, but not nearly up to the level of the first three. Diary and Survival are just bad films.

I think the zombie genre is done, personally. Shaun of the Dead was probably the last great zombie film, and fitting as it's a tribute to George's trilogy. So many shows and movies tried too hard to capitalize on the success of the Dawn Remake, and rarely found their mark.

Obviously these are just my personal opinions, but I just don't see it as a Romero film if he isn't directly involved. I'd obviously still give it a chance, but I just don't see it working.
You should definitely watch Train to Busan.

I haven't seen that one, and some of the other more "recent". It's on my list though.

As I said before in this thread over a year ago, I'd ONLY really want it if it was being made by people who were actually from Romero's camp, that knew and had worked with him. Like Michael Gornick, who was DP for Romero for most of Romero's biggest films, and then directed "Creepshow 2", from Romero's script. It seemed like a Romero film. Or Savini, who made the "Night" remake, and of course did many effects for Romero. Someone like that.

Otherwise, NO, I don't just want some young people to get together and give it that good ole '21st Century Vibe'.

No. In that case, just leave it be, and go make their own zombie B-movie, instead of cashing in on Romero's name.

MOVIES‘Twilight of the Dead’ – Brad Anderson Directing Zombie Movie That Began as a George A. Romero Treatment

I'm stoked. Brad Anderaon has been hit or miss lately. But Session 9 and the Machinst are great films. I got plenty of hope for this.

It's definitely not easy to match the adventure or style of those original three classics. Romero tried to have a new theme for each film.

I'd rank Romero's zombie films:
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Creepshow (the first story had a zombie in it)
Night of the Living Dead (aka Night of the Flesh Eaters)
Land of the Dead
Survival of the Dead
Diary of the Dead

Land was interesting, but I wasn't a huge fan of the zombie leader talking. I guess it makes sense though. They retain some of their prior abilities. He learned to shoot a gun too. Like Bub from the gruesome classic, Day of the Dead. Bub talked a little bit too.

I have to rewatch Survival of the Dead. It's been years.
Diary, that loose handheld camera work and style is a challenge to get used to. I only watched that film twice so far, from way back then.

Dawn of the Dead is a really classic zombie adventure film with tons of Romero's unique style seeping through.

For a running zombie film, it was intense and really good, agreed.

Thanks. The Machinist with Bale was pretty good. Interesting he'll be director. Hopefully no running zombies here.

I remember hearing about a "Twilight" of the Dead as a follow up to Day of the Dead, but then he made Land, Survival and Diary instead.

I wonder what the main theme will be in this one.

See, that’s the problem here; not one of the films you mentioned has enough quality to be considered good. Diary of the Dead blows each one of those out of the water, easily.

Picky picky.
Critics and audiences would say otherwise with the films I listed as they all appreciated them.

I mean come on, George would have loved One Cut of the Dead.

Glad to see that this is still happening with Brad Anderson directing and Greg Nicotero doing the makeup effects. Saddened by the casting announcement. Oh well hopefully it turns out good.

Nicotero doing the special makeup FX is great news. Love Jovovich too. Gaining interest in this project.
