I personally rather play a fun game first, before a game that is brutally difficult and unforgiving without decent checkpoints, due to limited free time. The last thing I want to do is not see progress but keep playing the same section over and over until I finally get it right. Not enough free time in life to do that at the moment.

That said, if the open world is epic in scale and variety, I'll definitely consider this game even with the brutal difficulty. Maybe I can skip most of the bosses if the map is fully open from the start and explore while building the character up, eventually getting strong enough to wipe them out. If that's possible.
I can't usually do hours long sessions either, an hour or two a night if i'm lucky but I had a blast with the Souls games. Their difficulty is overstated, it just means it doesn't hold your hand, and, usually, if you can't do a bit, there's something else fun to do while you level up enough so you can do it. The design and aesthetic of these games is just amazing.

As an aside, I can barely believe that a game (and it's sequels) I had to import from the USA to play at one point, as a UK release was uncertain (Demons' Souls) has been so successful, I see bits of it in a lot of other games now.

Good points. It really does boil down to time for me these days. As a kid I had way more free time to win at some of the most brutally difficult NES and SMS games, but as with your situation, 1 hour a day if I'm lucky to play games due to other stuff.
These games are tough, but with enough trial and error practice with enough time to achieve that, they can be fun and achieved over.

With that mindset, I'm definitely considering looking closely at Elden Ring.

I'm thinking it looks very grey. I was hoping they might have a bit more colour than their typical desaturated darker colourings but i signed up to request to be part of the beta. Guess we'll see what happens.

I think the footage in that video is off an XBOX One or PS4. Low res and not particularly flattering, I’m sure FromSoftware are thrilled.

That old version footage is from an early test version of the game, possibly from an employee who wanted to see it leaked and went against From Software's rules to release it. I imagine From Software would want the game to look great on PS5 and will present the final graphics and gameplay when it's fully ready.

Leaks happen because some employees are not trustworthy.

I'm pretty sure Elden Ring won't be as tough. I understand limited gaming time all too well, and I have a backlog of shame to prove it. That said, I never encounter gaming droughts! I'm about 1/2 way through the first Legend of Heroes game on the Vita and almost at the end of Yakuza 0....

Thanks. Sounds good. That's true, lots of games yet to be completed. I have about 20 games I recently bought on sale at the moment. Most of the time though, I'll set time aside to complete each one.

Good to see the Elden Ring game is getting closer to a release date with that deluxe packaging and statue figure for collectors.

I'm interested in learning how large this game is for exploration. I'm thinking it'll be about the size of maybe Kena: Bridge of Spirits in terms of distance. Or possibly the scale of the map of Fallout 3 or 4, which are large maps for an on foot only game. Or Shadow/War of Mordor's map size.

I'm guessing you can't ride a horse in this game, which would probably double the size of the game to that of Final Fantasy XV, RDR2, Mad Max, Horizon, etc.

Thanks Mavrick.

Elden Ring looks really great so far for an open world game. It'll be tough with some of the enemies, but the world map looks fun to explore with unique visuals and an unusual sky.

The magic spells look potent, and cool effects. Help from other ghost characters too.

So you can ride a horse in the game, really expanding the scale of the game compared to if you could only walk.

The character has a few different styles, which is cool. 1 sword, 2 swords, clubs, etc.

Good voice acting so far.

Nice graphics and style.

No health bars visible yet. Maybe that's an option.

Blocking and timing will be the key to defeating bosses and enemies.

The Dragon, and other bosses look really well designed and cool looking. But will be very tough to defeat at first I bet.

It's cool there are random animals exploring the landscape.

You can explore the map on foot, or hop onto a horse or creature.

Some of the bosses in the Shadow of Mordor games were really tough to defeat, but that game required a lot of slicing and button crunching to hang in there to defeat them.

I'm guessing there will be no difficulty mode, and it's going to be a challenge throughout the game, even for easier bosses, knowing From Software develops tough games.

I like all of the cliffs, and that ability to leap on top of a cliff quickly with the trampoline magic.

Yeah, sucks that my two most anticipated games for like the next six months come out within a week of each other.

If there are no delays as expected, then yeah, most people would do well to wait for a sale while completing the other game in the time it takes the other one to go on sale.

There's still a lot yet to be revealed about Horizon 2. Elden Ring's 20 minutes of gameplay revealed a lot about the game today. No waste of time CGI cutscene videos thankfully.
