Zoë Kravitz Directorial Debut ‘Blink Twice’ Starring Channing Tatum Sets Summer Release Via Amazon MGM Studios

In the movie, written by Kravitz and E.T. Feigenbaum, tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) at his fundraising gala, and sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise. Wild nights blend into sun-soaked days and everyone’s having a great time. No one wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. There is something wrong with this place. She’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive.

Pic also stars Alia Shawkat, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Christian Slater, Kyle MacLachlan and Geena Davis. Producers are Bruce Cohen, Tiffany Persons, Garret Levitz and Kravitz. The movie was made in conjunction with Free Association, this is important, and Bold Choices.

Amazon MGM currently has three films in release in the top 10 at the box office: Oscar Best Picture nominee American Fiction, The Beekeeper and Boys in the Boat.

Amazon MGM’s Beekeeper starring Jason Statham has racked up over $77 million at the global box office. The George Clooney-directed Boys in the Boat was a bright spot for adult dramas over the holiday box office with $45M stateside. American Fiction recently nabbed five Academy Awards including Best Picture. Upcoming is the Zendaya-led Challengers, set for April 26, and the Dwayne Johnson-Chris Evans holiday title Red One on November 15.

Also going wide on August 23 is Sony’s faith-based movie The Forge from the Kendrick brothers.

Zoë as well probably, but if you're going to release it theatrically and market it, you can't really go with that title.

Could be good, could be terrible, hard to tell much from that trailer. i was happy to see Alia Shawkat (Maebe from Arrested Development) in a bigger role. I feel like there's more and more of these kinds of movies these days, and I'm starting to get a little tired of them.

Reviews seem to be good, I was a tad worried this would be like Don’t Worry Darling or Antebellum where the film just “does” the thing it’s supposed to be satirising. I’ll try and give it a go.

I saw Blink Twice today. It wasn’t very good. Nascent story and was quite slow to get going. Once it did, there wasn’t much to it at all and it was over. I was expecting much more. There was also some absurd subtext buried in this movie that didn’t work at all. The best thing about this movie was the end credits song. There was also a literal “trigger warning” at the beginning of this movie. Absurd.

4/10

Also, because it was mentioned here. I actually liked Don’t Worry Darling. Not enough to watch it again but definitely more than this movie.
