You know WHEN Fox comes back on-board (I anticipate an announcement before the end of the month) they should try to negotiate with George Lucas immediately to get the unedited original Star Wars Trilogy(pre-CGI edits) to release on BD. George has said in the past that the pre-CGI films are not the films he stands by anyway in terms of Creator/Director vision so he might be willing to give the OK on these films.
Not going to happen. George comes to THEM and says "I'm doing Star Wars on XXX, make sure your promo people are ready"

The only problem with that is George is NOT going to do ANYTHING on Blu-ray until Blu-ray hits a good market saturation. That's why FOX needs to go to him. It's in everyone's best interest that the war end soon (except for early adopters who have benefited from the Hi-def wars with mail-ins/price cuts). DVD sales are slipping. The studios are no longer getting as much money from the DVD format, but consumers are not willing to invest in a hi-def format until the "war" is over. I realize that Blu-ray is stomping HD-DVD in sales numbers, but the war, I'm afraid could go on for a very long time. One movie, Star Wars, could bury HD-DVD.

He obviously does not hold the Original Trilogy sans CGI in that high of regard because when they put them on DVD awhile back as a "bonus" they were only the old Laserdisc transfers.

All he has to do is agree to LET Fox release the Original Trilogy on Blu-ray. Just hand over his source material for the film and let FOX handle the transfer since he obviously did not really care about the DVD transfer of the original Trilogy w/o CGI or he would have cleaned it up.

He doesn't have to agree to go all-out on bonus features and what-not. Just let FOX do the movie. 1080p, old school Star Wars - no frills! Fox could really put some muscle behind it with some high bandwidth video and audio with the extra storage. And in a couple/few years when Blu-ray reaches the 75-100 million saturation he wants, George could double-dip with the Remastered Star Wars movies! No one gets hurt except for HD-DVD.

He had to be nagged to years to even allow that.

The only cuts you'll get is the DVD cuts, or ones further altered, at some point in the future. 2009 at least now.
