When I bought the Goovis pro some years ago, I ordered an extra pair of lense from them for correcting astigmatism. I had to give them all the infos about my astigmatism for them to customize a pair of lense for me. These lenses can easily be clicked onto the lenses of the headset. The only problem is that the lenses will be closer to your eyes, and my eyelashes sometimes got in touch with the lenses. You can prevent this by adding extra thick pad foam, which you can also order from them. They also tried to sell me the extra control, but I didn't buy it.

Thank you Ken.....helpful answer. How did you get in touch with them?? Was address or e mail included with the head set? And how long did it take to get the lenses?

I haven't purchased mine yet, but depending on your answers i may get them soon.

At that time I contacted them by email goovishw@nedoptics.com.cn. They did respond quite fast. But this was 5-6 years ago, I am not sure how active they are now or if that email is still in use. I paid an extra US $100 for the lenses. They delivered using DHL, so I got it rather fast.

Hey Ken, Very much appreciated your answer so quickly.
A couple of questions:
Were they difficult to attach to a blu ray machine? (if you used them with one)
Do you still use them?

Happy to help I remember I also searched for reviews and answers of this device when I planned to buy it, but not much that gave me the details I needed.

You can connect it directly to a blu ray player. But the blu ray player should have volume control, as the Goovis doesn't have any volume control as far as I remember. Haven't really used it in some years and packed down somewhere in apartment. Also it has some built-in power save mode that's kind of annoying. Every time you take the headset off your head, it automatically turns off even if still connected to a player. So when you put on the headset again, sometimes it does not detect that a player is connected and remains black screen even though the power turns back on for the headset. So either you have to take the headset off and put on your face again, and hope that it detects the second time, or third, fourth times, etc. Or you have to unplug the headset from the player and reattach it, powering it up again, then you get the picture back. It's annoying if you just plan to take the headset off for few seconds to wipe the lense or similar, and not sure if you should do it..if it's a hassle to get the picture back, if you get what I mean :P

The reason I rarely use it nowadays is because of the screen size. The screen isn't really that big, even though the resolution and colour is sharp and good. If you start watching virtual theater in headsets like Oculus Quest 2, you will soon realize how small the Goovis screen is. But still it's a fine device for getting ok mid-size screen with true HD resolution. And I get to take off my glasses when using it also. And another thing, if you have astigmatism and don't get the extra lenses, you will also get sharp picture with the built-in adjustment, although you will probably feel unbalanced with the sight and get headache after a while...at least it happened to me. The good thing about it obviously is the ability to watch 3D frame pack blu-rays right off the disk via blu ray player. With Oculus Quest 2 I would have to do extra work with my 3D blu rays. Hopefully there will be a device in the future that takes the best of both headsets and merge it into one with wider FOV, that's the future of real home theatre in my opinion

Hey Ken, thanks much for thoroughly answering the questions. I appreciate the time that it took to answer them.
The glasses sound like my only option now....if anything ever happened to my 3D TV.
Basicly i just want to be able to turn the things on and enjoy a movie....like using a tv i guess. I don't have the desire to fumble with a computer, etc just to watch. At my tender age,,,i don't want to get into altering the living room to watch my 3D.

Again....thank you.

It's me......again.....still looking into the Goovis Pro and more and more they are looking like something i will use. (Still checking with Goovis to see if they can adjust for my astigmatism.)
Question: When the Goovis Pro is hooked up to a BLU RAY machine, and an audio headset is used for sound, must the headset have a volume control, if we wish to control the volume?
Thank you.

Found that Goovis sells this adapter for this very purpose.

Can I ask if you’ve been using your goovis pro lataly to watch 3D blu-ray? Have you watched anything that blew you away? Like Avatar, how is watching it trough the goovis?

Blu-ray 3D capabilities seems to be an afterthought for these headsets, causing many playback problems.
I spent my day off trying to make the Royole Moon work, I refused to do it for the Goovis, primarily because it cost more.

one thing i didn't talk about was the response time. i was also surprised to see how little it affected the 3D effect, maybe my js8500 has such a good response time that i was already used to it, but again, only felt marginally better than my TV set. which did retail for like 3-4 grand on release date (i paid $800 for it brand new in 2017). Was definitely more smoother and natural but not by a very large degree. If you come from a cheap 3D LED TV, then it just might be a revelationary experience owning this, for ya

I would still prefer the mobile theater headset route for 3D viewing IF only some company did it right and fixed the problems I have already mentioned or lowered the price.

Goovis actually had the nerve to report me to amazon about how I shipped the item back not in its original packaging. Well no shit! I had to test it out to find out it wasn't as described in their listing. Which I also put in the reason description for return.
But I DID send everything back that was originally included in mint condition, minus the small plastic bags for accessories (like the free gift HDMI/USB splitter!) that I had to cut open. Even the plastic film around headvisor was still on. They are shady af and I'd advise you stay clear of GOOVIS. And if amazon wants to ban my account for returning items from dishonest sellers, then i guess im not shopping at amazon anymore.
when i realized i didnt need the D3 controller for blu-ray 3D playback, the initial plan was to actually send it back, and just re-purchase the headset only for 1k, but then the image quality (elevated blacks) really bummed me out and lack of setting controls without the D3, so I didnt bother.

I really don't mind if these mobile theater headset companies made the product bulky so there would be no shortcomings in the quality control department. I definitely believe the glass lenses area NEEDS to be larger. It was surpassingly similar to the coverage area of the Royole Moon.
What about you? Still enjoying this? Your review was amazingly detailed? The same questions for you? Saw anything that was mind blowing on this?

That’s a shame. But yeah, 1k for a device like that is way too much. You can get a nice projector for that money and the 3D will be much more immersive.
The Goovis G3 Max is releasing soon. Hope than one might have figured out the kinks with this technology.

I think it means that it is compatible with blu-ray 3D HDMI and displays frame packed side by side on the VR device.

To be honest I haven't used Goovis for a long time now, since the screen isn't that big even though the resolution is good. So after using Meta Quest 2 and Skybox application, there is no way back. The catch is that you have to find a way to convert the 3D bluray to side-by-side format, it's a hassle but still worth it. But I still like Goovis as a backup solution for direct plug-n-play of 3d Blurays

I've been looking into these dedicated media viewers for some time. But even with the downsides, VR is still a better way to watch 3D movies. BTW, using Virtual Desktop it is possible to watch raw 3D blu-ray discs directly in VR without having to convert to SBS or OU. See my previous posts on the 3D VR thread for more info. The only conversions I do now are for saving disc space.

I have been using GOOVIS PRO for about a month now. Certainly gives a sharp picture and the "size" of the image is very satisfying.

Really appreciate the 3D! Not too sure that the pop out is as wonderful as using a projection screen, but depth is great. There is pop out.....but may not the same as a screen.

Really enjoy that the rest of the room does not have to be in darkness....but i can still enjoy the movie.

That's the first proper positive review I've read on this device. But it sounds like you are basically having the same advantages as those of us that use VR Up until recently I might have given the Goovis Pro another look, but the attached screenshot from my VR hmd should explain why a new device is not a priority (it's actually a little sharper in real life)

That's an interesting question lol

Short answer:
Not exactly.

Long answer:
First you need to connect to a PC, then have the software to be able to play native 3D on your PC. Then have the VR software to relay the screen back to your HMD.

This is the way I have been doing it for the last couple of years, but recently I've been converting them to x265 Top/Bottom to save disc space. Anyway, once converted there are many options for watching them in VR (including some free VR software) directly without the use of a PC.

Hope this helps.

Yup.....the glasses are nice. Just connect a usb and hdmi to the glasses; a headset to the audio out of the glasses and you can watch 3D with a great picture and 3D effects. I guess what i like the most is i don't have to understand and learn a lot of tech stuff ( i am easing out of my 70's) i just enjoy. Regular movies are great on these things as well. No dark room or worrying about the volume bothering my wife.

Very similar benefits to VR but if you don't want the techie stuff then you definitely don't want to go down the VR route
