I also saw it many years ago. I did not love it, but it was pretty decent, and it beat my - admittedly low - expectations.

Where’s the best place to order this for American folks? I never got round to picking up the old DVD or Blu; the only time I’ve seen this was when I borrowed a friend’s VHS many years ago.

DiabolikDVD is where I ordered mine from and they still have it in stock. Expect around $5 in shipping, but it is well worth it. They package stuff with extra care!

Hmmm... the US Amazon listing says clearly 'REGION FREE', but the box and listing here show Region B... I guess I could give it a try and just return it if it is not Region Free as they show. And, I GUESS that would be for both discs, the main film and the Xtras Blu-ray. I would mainly be getting it for the 3 hrs+ of new xtras

The Second Sight website says this set is region B. I’m in the UK but I have a multi region player, I’ll try it on US region and see if it is region free.

I’ve just tried both discs in my multi region player and they won’t play unless it’s set to region B.

Thank you kindly for checking it for me and for letting me know!

Bummer... Ol' Amazon has lied again. I wonder why they went to the trouble to insert a big caption on the listing [REGION FREE] Oh well, I did order it, but I can easily return it if I need to do so. I GUESS since I did pay for it (rather well I might add...) I could try to rip it, but I'll hafta see if it is worth the trouble.

Thanks again mate!

I have the US disc from Shout Factory. A s the UK edition much different. I know it has a 5.1 mix but felt the stereo 2.0 on the US edition was rather involving.

Ah, very good news! I fully did not expect this Blu-ray to play on my US player. My usual OPPO BDP-83 is in the shop at the moment, and I had snagged this old Panny player off eBay for like $30 (DMP BD85) which I guess was considered pretty good when it came out around 2010.

Well, at first, I put the disc in and it read it and I didn't get any warning or region messages, but it just kind of sat there when I pushed play. So, I saw this guy on YouTube who suggested that with many older Panny players, try pressing 'Stop' once, and then press the 'Top Menu' button. He said that you have to have a Top Menu button for this to work and sometimes you have to press it multiple times. And, lo & behold the disc menu showed up and played just fine with both discs! That is so awesome because it is such a beautiful set (Man, if I had a nickel for everytime I've used that line... ) and I really love the film. So, just thought I'd swing back here and mention this just in case it might help someone.

Absolutely agree! It is easily in my top 20 all time favourite Horror films, and probably one of THE best Psychological Horror films ever...

BUT... You absolutely must watch it undistracted, alone in the dark, late at night. This is NOT a movie to watch with a bunch of friends and be laughing and drinking. Although, after watching this film, you most likely will need a drink.

***EDIT

Oh, and fortunately I was able to do a very simple menu hack on my old OPPO so that I could watch this, since my OPPO is Region 1 and the movie is Region 2. Also, being one of my very favourites, I REALLY wanted that deluxe box set. So, most thankfully the hack worked and I was able to play it on my Region 1 player

There aren't really any movies that scare nor creep me out. So watching it in any numerous circumstances wouldn't really affect my viewing. Now, if it's a disturbing movie, that might be slightly different. Though, again, maybe not; my thoughts on certain disturbing movies probably wouldn't change whatever setting I'm viewing them in, either. So, I guess mentioning that does nothing for my point.

But I do think about some points of dialogue, especially Simon talking to Gordon, that I often think I want to add to certain characters I have created in my own fiction over the years. But I never do because I don't want to rip it off.

I just watched this release. I have found a problem with many of these Second Sight releases. It's audio is way too low. It's strange because when the label's intro to the disc comes on, it's incredibly way too loud. So much so that I had to turn the volume way down. Then had to turn it way back up. If only the feature's audio was as loud as the studio's intro before the disc menu.

And it sounds different than my first viewing. The Scream Factory release has much better audio. One point during the beginning of the movie when Gordon is looking out at the containment chair, or whatever that thing is called, I could hear the static of the recording further in the movie creeping up on him and the audio initially reminded me of horse hooves, almost. As I watched this movie on this release, I could barely hear it. Turning the volume up didn't even help. I wonder if those who worked on the audio of this movie thought those effects that made the audio very strange and very creepy removed those effects because they thought it was audio hiss or blemishes. Like in the Sony Fright Night 2.0 audio, there is annoying and irritating pops and clicks. That which was in Session 9 are meant to be there. I am only speculating, because there are still those effects, but they aren't nearly as pronounced, and that upsets my mind.

Movies are half audio, and the audio on a lot of Second Sight's releases are way too low. So low that the effects are buried.

I will likely not watch this release again and will probably stick with Scream Factory's release because I can actually hear everything I remember. Very disappointed in this release.

Hmmm, that is too bad... This is easily in my personal top 20 films of all time. I was able to score the nice box, I believe from Second Sight and figured out how to be able to play it on my Region 'A' OPPO. Bummer man, if they screwed with the sound that much. You are quite right... The sound on this film particularly is a very big part of the overall creepy atmosphere.

I haven't watched the Blu-ray yet, but that sure sounds like they may have really messed that up, sadly...

I just watched My Father's Glory and My Mother's Castle, I can confirm that it has audio level issues as well. The extras have way higher levels than the movie. TBH I don't know whether it's that the movie is too low or extras are too high, as I thought the feature's stereo track was rather good (one of the widest stereo images I've heard recently, even if that was noticeable only on a few occasions), but they are definitely not in balance with each other, requiring me to change the volume between extras and feature.

Well, as I mention, the Scream Factory release at least sounds right. I have problems with SF, too, that their audio is pretty low compared to like Arrow. But SF does have the effects that I do not hear on the Second Sight release.

I would check it out for yourself and let me know what you guys think. Maybe my player or receiver is doing something to the audio. I should try the SF disc in the region free player I use to play Second Sight's...?

One of my absolute favourite Horror films of all time! Thanks!

Although in Region 1 territory here in the US, I sprung for this box set shortly after it came out because I frigg'n LOVE the movie so much. I was hopeful that the title menu hack would work, and THANKFULLY it did! I paid a bit more for it then though, and I VERY rarely pay this much for films, it ended up being about $48 or so. But again, a DAMN good film, moody and atmospheric as hell!

Hey, thanks for the plug! I normally don't handle Second Sight releases but occasionally get a chance to dig through their back catalog for missing blanks to fill in. Any other good ones that didn't got covered?
