No, you are not incorrect about the multiple domes. However, the multiple domes in the movie were one big complex around the DC area. In the book, there were domed complexes all over the continent with tube type transportation and air transportation between. In the movie, they imply that the dome dwellers believe that the outside is uninhabitable. In the book, it is simply dangerous and most only travel out of the domes to certain communities and safer areas. The outside communities are still under the DS age limitation, the only areas free of that are areas not under control of the big computer and the Sandmen, which most are unaware of.
In the book, the computer that controlled all was hidden in a cave complex over the giant statue of Sitting Bull (at least I think it is of Sitting Bull, it is that sculpture that was basically carved and blown out of a small mountain). The sequels get even more far off. Eventually, the little group of rebels including Logan and Jessica find a still functional NASA complex in Florida and travel off planet. They also get into an alternate universe Logan visits where he was the loyal Sandman and Francis was the Sandman turned rebel hero. The gun in the books was both cooler and not as cool. It was DNA linked to a specific Sandman, was a revolver, and had six different types of specialized rounds. But no cool flame effect. There was a lot of detail about a highly advanced Sandman martial art, I think it was called Omnite. I haven't been able to find audio versions of the books, so I haven't read them in over 10 years since I finally waved the white flag on reading print novels. My memory may be off on a few details. The Wikipedia entry says lastday is actually the 21st birthday not the end of the 21st year, there was some detail of the Little War which is the event that led up to the youth takeover and the leader of the young revolution being the first to take Deep Sleep. Like I said, there are a lot of differences, and to me they make each worth experiencing. I think that the Carousel setup and some of the other differences from the original movies will remain. I think it works better for a film than the Sleep Centers in the book, but I hope the bring in some of the other elements from the book. A lot of them got cut simply because there was no real way to manage the effects or because the already insane effects budget could not be stretched any further. If done right, this could be one of the few remakes that does what a remake should, stand on its own while maintaining respect for the original. chris Quote:

I read the book a couple years ago, and I don't remember there being domes at all...the cities were "in the open" just like they are today. I can't swear by that, but I think the whole dome idea was new for the movie version.
As for doing a remake closer to the book...well, the book is actually pretty goofy with several concepts that are more cheesy than what we get in the film. Yes, the film is a major departure, but it's an improvement in my estimation. The computer that runs the world is under the sculpture of Crazy Horse (not Sitting Bull) in the Black Hills of South Dakota, near Mount Rushmore. |

It was really difficult for me to enjoy The Island because I felt it ripped so much off from Logan's Run! I don't understand how they got away with doing that. |

It would be very hard to top that movie with a remake of Logans Run... a movie about two naive child like adults wandering around a world they didn't know existed, discovering the attrocities of Human kind.... movie go-ers in this day and age just won't sit through it without an explosion and car chase or two. |

"The Island" was a remake of "The Clonus Horror" They tried to get away with copying without permission, but after legals stepped in an out ouf court settlement was reached. |
