I don't even care all that much for horror/exploitative films but even I find this to be one of the most disturbing and terryifing yet darkly funny films I've ever seen! It seems to be a cult favourite, so I would guess that the lack of interest could be due to the lack of advertising from Vinegar Syndrome, alongside the fact that you can't even go to their website to see the listing (and won't even be available to purchase it until January)

Yes, this movie is something else, it transcends genre really. I'm very excited to delve into the new supplements on this feature, there's a whole lot going on above and under the surface on this one. It's on one hand a crowning achievement in wacko exploitation, but that's not the only value this one holds. I want to hear how much the Hong Kong handover influenced this movie, I always believed it was a big deal to do with it.

Watched this tonight. Not my cup of tea but the transfer is rock solid. Fans should be pleased.

Does Amazon sells VS titles or need to order from VS directly?

Should be on Amazon eventually, no slipcover! DiabolikDVD and a few other places will carry this release, Diabolik will probably have the slipcover if you care about that

When would it be out on Diabolik (give or take)? Would like to get a release with the slipcover, if available

Wonder if they won’t have any of the new VS titles until their main website opens again in January.

They're doing a partner month so that sounds likely

I watched this years ago when I was catching a ton of notable HK movies, this and Untold Story being on my must see list.

It was a super hard movie for my wife and me to stomach, but that supplemental package has me incredibly interested in this release. Told my wife about possibly picking this up in 4K and she totally gave me "the look". I just love how insane this movie is... though hard for me to recommend to anyone without seeming like a psychopath haha

would be nice as I would like to snatch this up. VS has been doing some quality work. Would love them to get involved with more HK stuff.

This and the Tiger Claws Trilogy are showing up on Grindhouse.com. I thought they were exclusive to the VS store. So is Grindhouse a good retailer?

This was on Orbit too. I have ordered from them before in the past, reputable to me!

Lets see if you can get it before me from VS themselves

I watched the 4K of this last night, not really knowing what I was getting myself into. I was not a fan. I love some movies with similarly gonzo attitudes like Ichi the Killer, but this one just left a bad taste in my mouth. I think the biggest problem I had was that the protagonist is just a completely disgusting creep, which is a fine choice for a movie to make, but made the whole thing really unpleasant cause I immediately just wanted the guy to die so I didn't have to put up with him anymore.

I do like the escalation with him spreading disease everywhere (though there are some really bad, silly slo-mo effect shots of disease flying out of his mouth).

I really don't like the animal violence. I mean, I've watched Italian cannibal movies plenty of times, I'm not advocating for censorship, and they did specify that these animals were eaten so it wasn't totally pointless, but it's still really unpleasant getting all the close-ups of live frogs being chopped up as they squirm, or chickens being decapitated (with one having its head wrenched off). It really goes a way towards making this movie just a big series of unpleasant events instead of something fun and ridiculous like hyper-violent genre flicks often are.

And I don't think it's got any artistic aspirations or any interesting characters like you get in something like an Ichi the Killer, either. It reminds me more of something like "Island of Death," but without the sense of fun that one has. It's just kinda 15 year old edgelord material. "The protagonist is a serial rapist/murderer that also masturbates into pieces of meat which he then cooks and serves to guests at the restaurant, and then he rapes a native woman and bashes her head in with a rock which gives him ebola which he then spreads to everyone cause he's immune to it" sounds like something one of the goony kids would have come up with in my high school.

I started listening to the commentary track from the genre expert, which is really good and probably would have made me appreciate it more had I watched the whole movie with it. However, I only listened to about 10 minutes before I got impatient to watch a different movie from all the others I got with it!

Transfer is great, as everyone has said.

I ordered it off of grindhousevideo after seeing this post (night of the 14th) and it came in today. Maybe a scuff on the casing but everything else seems in order. I'm happy with the time and condition it arrived in. No slipcover though, which is fine with me because I don't care for them anyway.

My thoughts exactly, couldn't finish it myself, it left a nasty taste in my mouth and felt the need to immediately shower right after.

Always funny to see the reactions to movies like these from unsuspecting 4K buyers, haha. Can’t wait to see what happens when Thriller: A Cruel Picture comes out.

Absolutely loved this myself. Just nonstop disgusting filth.
