It does say Hybrid Stereo so possibly only stereo. Both would be ideal, VH is the type of band with a quirky enough sound to benefit from a hyped up surround mix.

So it can play dts in true 5.1, I ended up figuring how to get my fave surround SACDs, DVD-As and Blu-rays into dts and then burn multiple albums as "movie titles" on DVD. It was a PITA, but now I have some 100 albums I can listen to in surround when I go for groceries etc. Obviously when the kids are in for longer trips to the grandparents etc, they get movies. lol |

The mastering will definitely be different than HDTracks, as they always master their own releases. |

Cspturing some artists in high quality album transfers is also nice. Pet Sounds from the 2fer in mint condition is my go to on bluray. This is why I get torn, because the old Van Halen vinyls have a sound. |

I was thinking more along the lines of ripping to FLAC or making a straight CDR clone of the redbook layer. Then again I tend to only buy SACDs of albums that I already have a regular CD, since there's often so much difference in the sound that I wouldn't want to be without a standard copy. Especially in the case of Brothers In Arms since the redbook layer on the SACD is FAR TOO BLOODY LOUD so the original 1985 master is infinitely preferable if I want to listen to it on something that can't read the SACD layer. So there's actually no need to ever play them in the car, but others may be a bit more cavalier. Besides, they're tougher than most newer CDs, about as hard to scratch as those sturdy old 80s discs that just keep on trucking no matter what you throw at them.

Hearing Heartbreaker and Whole Lotta Love, for the first time, that way, was a mind blowing experience. It was a religious experience, in that I was 100% converted to Led Zeppelin in one night! |
