If your main concern is picture quality, then do not upgrade. I doubt that there will be a new encode for it and I am not impressed with my HD-DVD version. The visual style of the movie won't add much to any hd version. It's like expecting POTC pq on Cloverfield.

Not when your hardware upscales the standard version. Impressions will vary depending on hardware and setup. I am using a 42 lcd rear projection. This tv makes it hard for me to "upgrade" to a flat panel because I love the picture so much. If you are using a 32" lcd, then I honestly doubt the style of the movie will add to your viewing pleasure. Perhaps on a screen 50+ calibrated and all......If you are fixated on pq, then it will only frustrate you.

pure garbage! some of the scenes in this are no better then standard DVD. very disappointed.

No scene in any blu ray is going to look worse than a DVD, except for maybe early Blu Ray's such as The Italian Job, Terminator 2, and House of Flying Daggers. Miami Vice was shot with a digital camera and was ment to be grainy, or at least that's how I remembered it in the theater.

No complaints here! Miami Vice is an excellent movie and features great performances by Colin Farrell and Jaime Foxx. Very tight directing by Michael Mann and one of his best flicks. IMO a showcase blu ray!!! Mann flicks in order

Thought it was a wonderful transfer. Faithful to the Director's intent. Universal has some of the best Blu's out and they are just getting started. For some reason, people just want wax statues for actors (See Patton).

I guess we need to go round and round on this one for Blu-ray now too...

Michael Mann used Specific cameras that have low light issues on purpose. He wanted that gritty old fashioned look that the original Series had and tried to emulate that. The noise (not grain, no film) was a byproduct that had to be lived with to get the intended "texture" of the film due to the cameras he wanted to use.

I think you are missing the point. We are talking about film making and Director's intent - not how the film will eventually "look" when transferred to BD or dvd. When transferred to disc, we would hope that the film will "look" how the director intended it to look - in this case grainy and gritty - and, by definition, even more so on Blu ray. The film was made intentionally to look grainy and gritty in most scenes and that is exactly how the film should look on BD.

I dont care what any of you "film pro's" say. Having one camera angle crystal clear then have another angle in the SAME ROOM fuzzy and grainy, makes Zero sense. Now if the Director is going for a certain look for the movie then have the WHOLE movie that way Example Band Of Brothers.

Your just going to have to get used to it. Many films are not meant to look crystal clear. Nor should they.
