It's pretty well known to be the opposite, but by how much isn't known... I am sure by now that the BD replicating cost have came way down and aren't to far off from HD DVD's replicating cost.

I doubt this claim. I don't think current HD DVD players equips additional copy protection and AVS codec. How can they play CH DVD?

I'm not 100% sure.. just quoting Wikipedia.. They "usually" are a reliable source. I'm not sure about the additional copy protection.. Perhaps a firmware update as they do for newer Blu-ray content. AVS? I know HD DVD players can play the AVC codec and it appears AVS is a forum of it. Who knows really.. I would like to though. The AVS codec is new to me.

If a firmware update to add AVS support was possible for the standalone HD DVD and BD players, the video decoder suppliers wouldn't have had to do new designs to add AVS support. So anyone expecting firmware updates to current HD DVD and BD players to add AVS support is dreaming.

Except perhaps for say, the Computer in a Box methods, no?

Like the PS3, where it can be done fully software.

That's why I said "standalone" players. The CPUs in those are not fast enough to do video decoding in software.

Expecting me to pay complete attention? bah!

Actually I was thinking of the early HD-A1s that pretty much just had the intel chip in it. But to be honest, I have no level of familarity there to even begin to know if they still a chipset solution for the codecs or not.

The fast CPU ran the navigation software and decoded secondary video. A separate chip was used for decoding the main video in hardware.

Ah, thank you. And more proof that a little bit of knowledge, and a failure to pay attention combined make a very humilating thing for myself.
