That's not what "realistic" means. If that were realistic, it would have already happened.

Yeah, Paramount has more defined numbers than " these boards."

Plenty of things are realistic that haven’t happened yet. We’ve got at least a few more years before the lights go out at the studios’ home video departments. For the shows already finished in 4k (so far only this and the latest season of Discovery but I assume all the live action series from here on will follow) it’s certainly possible they release complete series 4k box sets someday á la Game of Thrones and leave the individual season sets as they are.

As for the old series, I doubt any of them get 4k releases ever when we can’t even get two major series in HD.

And THAT'S not what "milking" means.

Paramount has been double/triple/quadruple/etc.-dipping with Trek home video releases since home video began. The obvious direction for them to take is to release the new shows on Blu-ray first and then, much later, on 4K so as to entice Trekkies to spend their money not just once, but twice.

My word does that steelbook look atrocious. Why not just have the horse riding on top of the Enterprise ala Rise of Skywalker?

...I never noticed he was wearing a cowboy hat in that poster.

That's just a bit too on the nose

I'm simply noting that dynamics are different with 4K and the shift with streaming. I'm not breaking any news with this. It just find it odd that some have expectations as if we are living in 2005.

So if they think they can sell (or re-sell) the Trek TV shows in 4K -- they will do so.

It's not a matter of "they don't offer their TV shows in 4K disc..."

They would (and will) if there is money to be made.

Judging from these boards there is a TON of interest in TOS Seasons 1-3 on 4K (without DNR) around here.
I'd buy TOS again in a heartbeat

I'm not familiar with the show, so I don't know how well it fits with it, but I do like the imagery of the Steelbook personally. It's more visually interesting to me than the Steelbooks for Discovery and Picard, which are fairly basic in comparison.

I enjoy the current Trek shows and would buy them on 4K if offered (Crave streams all of them in Canada after their initial broadcast on the Space channel, so I haven't been bothered to buy the Blu-rays yet), but I wouldn't hesitate to buy the original Star Trek again in 4K. They can throw in the HD FX from the mid '00s, but give me the show with the original FX in 4K! It's my all-time favourite show and it would look glorious in ultra HD. (DS9 and Voyager in HD would be fab, but that's an entirely different conversation.)

I'm going to get the steelbook.I liked that poster art when it was released and on steelbooks,I tend to like more minimalist art over more characters thrown in.

I'm pretty excited to get this - WOM on it is strong, and I got kind of burned out on Discovery. Steelbook looks cool to me.

You have no ability whatsoever to admit you're wrong, do you? Also, you've clearly been paying no attention to the way Star Trek on physical media works.

I pre-ordered the standard Blu-ray set. Pre-order is up before any official announcement. Fascinating.

I love that steelbook. I wonder what’s on the back and inside.

Yep. Unlike Disney, which keeps its non-theatrical release Star Wars original content on Disney+.

Hey, it's a free country, it's their IP. yada, yada, yada, but the corporate side of The House of Mouse doesn't do itself any favors by saying, "If you want to see The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi or Andor, you must subscribe to our streamer."

I believe if Paramount Global can put its original Star Trek content out on physical media after a grace period so that fans can watch Strange New Worlds, Disney could at least consider doing the same. Goodwill to fans is better than corporate obduracy.
