I would be surprised Sony would be so generous these days. That would be nice of them though. If it'll look like Horizon 2, I was thinking $70 since it'll be much more than 4K 60 fps involved, which it already hits with the PS4 Pro version on a Ps5.
Sony's PlayStation 5 remakes of PlayStation 3 games launch for $70 with no upgrade option: Demon's Souls & The Last of Us Part I.

Sony's PlayStation 5 remasters of PlayStation 4 games have a $10 upgrade option: Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, & Uncharted Legacy of Thieves.

Since Horizon Zero Dawn was originally released on PlayStation 4 it fits the latter category.

I'd not mind if Rare's Conker Bad Fur Day was remade. I mean, it was remade for the Xbox, but had a lot of censorship which made it inferior to the N64 version.
I remember when Conker was first announced in video game magazines, and they were saying the game would have blood and swearing if I remember that right. I never got around to playing that one, but will have to watch some gameplay.

That would be nice of Sony, thanks. I hope they go that route. I'm surprised is all they would spend so much more effort for $10. Though for those new to Horizon, it would no doubt be a nice way to experience the game hopefully as a PS5 enhanced graphics game at $70.

Some "open map" games like Fable, are very linear along restricted paths to each section. So you walk down a narrow road to get to each "open" section. Nothing truly open about those kinds of maps. Or like the "open world" maps in some driving games that restrict the player to only roads, no off road to access all of that open land at all.

I think that upcoming Gothic game remake is more linear path based too from what I saw of it so far.
Test Drive Unlimited, that was one of the largest open world games ever.
I could probably be saying this better, but not the game map that is the world you play in. The map you that you bring up to try to find locations and such. It was so hard to find where to go at times because things weren't labeled much and I ended up getting lost so much at times. It's amazing how far they came with traversal and the map in general with The Witcher 3. It was so much easier to get around than the debacle of a map you had to try to use in The Witcher 2 was given.

Well let's be fair here. A total of 8 people probably played the first Witcher game. Hell I wasn't even familiar with the existence of the IP until somebody showed me Witcher 2 on X360. So I really don't mind this remake at all. The majority of gamers were first introduced to the series with part 3, so I think its perfectly reasonable to make this game.

The maps in Witcher 3, I liked, though I wished they had them all in one world map, without separating them into 3 loading sections. So you could hop on that boat and travel to all 3 with zero loading. That would've been cool.

But thanks for the heads up on the old Witcher 2 map.

I see your point about lesser known games, though keeping in mind, the success of Witcher 1 and then 2, are what helped CD Projekt Red save up enough money to make Witcher 3, before they became a publicly traded corporation of corruption with the botched release of Cyberclunk on consoles (for that first year easily). Hopefully they'll clean things up a little in time for Witcher 4.

You're welcome. Going back and re-reading my post from this morning, I can tell that I made it in the morning. A couple of mistakes in the beginning, but you seem to have gotten the gist of it, so no big deal.

I know it's unlikely to ever happen as there's just too many other games to play, but I wouldn't mind going back to the Xbox version of 2 and trying to finish it with a really good walkthrough from YouTube as I did enjoy the game when the map wasn't infuriating me. It is another in a long line of backwards compatible games that look great on the Xbox One X or Series X.

Here's the article going into a lot better detail than I ever could that I remember reading after I gave up on playing the game a few years ago.... https://thatgamesux.com/getting-lost...o-build-a-map/

Thanks. It'll be interesting to see if they try to make the first game's map more like part 3's, or if they'll strictly stay with the exact same design, just better graphics. That article on how not to build a map, definitely puts things in perspective with your experience of Witcher 2.

Thanks.

I should test out Witcher 3. It's been a couple years since I played it. I was able to finish that game without a single update for the PS4 disc version. That was a quality game IMO from CDPR before they let the fortune made go to their heads...

Since it's an actual remake, I'd be surprised if they didn't make traversal more like 3 than in the past games. That's part of the reason to remake old games (making them more modern).

You're welcome. Going from The Witcher 3 to 2, it was jarring and surprising to say the least. Given how solid traversal is overall in 3, I was surprised how archaic and just plain bad it was in 2 with the map being so bad. I would have been fine with not having the automatic waypoints guiding you, even if I like that, as long as the map itself was easy to use to still find things. I get that it's an old game, but I expected better from a developer like CD Projekt Red, instead of not hitting their stride until The Witcher 3.
