I saw the film when it was new on a huge screen.
I was both a little disappointed and pleasantly surprised.
Daniel Haller was Roger Corman's art director on the Poe
films. He also directed Die Monster Die! (1965) with
Karloff, which I saw theatrically at a Halloween marathon
at about the same time. My first exposure to Lovercraft.

Love the music.
I have the limited edition CD of the restored score.
Les Baxter's finest.

I’d like to get this as well but I have so many other titles on my wish list it’s hard to justify. 4K may have clinched it.

A new 2K scan should be an improvement over
the old hi-def scan. I'm buying it.

This is one I also saw first run. This was the type of film my local second run theater would show first run, meaning they would get the bigger movies second run. I saw many of the late 60s and 70s Hammer films there, many of which required a legal guardian. My older brother would pay his 50¢, go in with me and my friends to meet that requirement, and usually slip out the back door. One awkward experience for us involved having to sit through The Vampire Lovers with a friend's mother.

My mother and I saw THE VAMPIRE LOVERS at a drive-in theater, and that was the last Hammer film that we attended together, for obvious reasons.

Could be. But the shout release was no slouch. So it would have to be an extra nice new scan.

I got the Wicked Vision SE version about a year ago... I wonder how this will stack up??

I don't want to have to double dip if I don't have to...

Surprised this got reviewed so early. Looking forward to it, and forgot it was coming the first week of next month, but really wish it were a UHD disc release.

2K isn't that much bigger than 1080. In fact, it's likely that the old scan is 2K as well. The difference would be in the quality of the film elements or the digital restoration, not the resolution.

It was a 4K scan, finished at 2K.

Ooo, new 2K scan.

4K is a thing now.

I probably would have bought a UHD release.

Knowing Arrow, in six months maybe I will.

There may be some cases where an artist personally copyrights their art.

The crazy thing about boutique labels creating new art.
1. They have to get permission, and possibly pay to use an actor's likeness.
2. They have to pay the artist to create the art.
3. They could just slap the original poster on the cover with no permission or costs.
This is an interesting take. I'd like to see citations backing this up.

Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead was set in a town called Dunwich - any association to this film?

Think it’s just a Lovecraft reference. The more genre astute see the town’s name and know the spookies about to go down.

Wonderful Les Baxter score on this film. The inclusion of the soundtrack would have been amazing.

The Beaver review compares it to the DVD, not the previous blu-ray release. Not terribly helpful.

This BD looks very good. Nice organic grain, very filmic. I didn't necessarily need this release since I had the Shout disc but if we're going to get worthwhile upgrades like this I'm all for it. Now I'm wondering if I should go back and rethink double dipping on everything Arrow has re-released from MGM that Shout once had.
