Kino has access to create new masters for Paramount titles, and have done/are doing so on several. So if they were unhappy with the master, they would have just made a new one, most likely. This is a pretty major noir title, and one of the few big, big ones not on BD in the US (excluding WB-owned title).

Lol! Not true. Kino still releases the occasional pq-stinkers like the first two seasons of Night Gallery that have thick DNR.
I am currently watching The Night Stalker and some episodes have lovely film grain and some have waxy DNR all over them.

I knew this when I bought TNS but I wanted it so bad. The two movies of TNS Kino released look great.

I think if it was based on a new transfer, they would promote it heavily. I suspect it is just the same transfer but now getting a US release. I hope I'm wrong, but that is the feeling I get.

Sent message asking if it's a new master, waiting for an answer.
Why would Shout wait 3 years to release it after Imprint just to end up with the same master?

I love this movie. My late mother used to tell me how this and THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE traumatized her as a child when she saw them in the theater.

Even so, they would still have the chance to do a different encode with better compression, which was Imprint’s problem. It won’t be a 1:1 copy of that disc.

The original radio play with Agnes Moorehead packed a pretty big wallop back in the day. It was repeated by popular request many times.

Will still take it if the compression is better handled. The Imprint is Minecraft like in areas with its blockiness.

Hopefully it will be, but I kind of doubt it will be a newer transfer if they're not mentioning it in the specs.

I have the Imprint release also, and yeah... the encode could easily be improved upon. They really need to utilize some different encoders on a lot of their releases.

I really wish this had a new transfer. It's a key noir and deserves it.

Sad that there is no new transfer, but outside of the compression issues from what I've seen the Imprint master looks ok for a film from the 40's. So it's not the end of the world I suppose.

It’s possible that this is still a new or at least different master even though it isn’t mentioned. A lot of Kino’s Paramount releases are completely different transfers from the blus that Imprint have released so I wouldn’t be surprised. We will just have to wait and see.

Love Stanwyck in just about anything, even when she teeters close to over the top like here, she’s always on point and fascinating to watch. Decades ago, before VCRs, I recorded this to a cassette tape to play back later (having never been exposed to the original radio production); I had seen the film before, but was curious how it would play with only the audio. It was quite effective, though I had no way of knowing what they’d changed or added to the film version. I do hope this isn’t a second rate transfer, because it is worthy of top tier treatment.

I did the same thing! Before we got our first VCR in 1983, I used to regularly record the audio portions of favorite movies and cartoons.
