Hopefully they've maybe seen the Mild Mannered blogpost and used it as a guide. He's so thorough in his documentation that it takes any effort away on Warner's end.

This has been my #1 Blu-ray since I first saw these. Kind of wish it was coming from Warner Archive, so we wouldn't have to worry so much about errors, but seeing them in HD regardless of incorrect intros will be fabulous.

Yes, it's coming from Warner Home Video, the mass market consumer division, not Warner Archive, which is the more upscale division.

That's my main concern; hopefully they don't muck it up.

Finally !!!!!! .......Been waiting for this Restoration for a Long time ! I still have the WB DVD set with slipcase. Last year I got the 17 shorts in SD Digital on Prime Video for $9.99 ! I hope these look as good as the Color Popeye 1940's Blurays. Or Better. : )

I think at one point I had some of these on a budget VHS tape way back in the day!

This goes back to when the film elements for the first short were transferred for the 2006 Superman films DVD boxset.

The entirety of the first short as released by Warner is actually riddled with similar "clipping out" of the audio at various points throughout, in a way that I've never heard on any other copy. The "truthjustice" part is just the most noticeable, particularly as the opening short's narration is incorrectly slotted in to some later shorts.

If nothing else, Warner need to fix the audio on the first short at the very least.

It's probably too late if the release date is next month, but there are several other items that it would be good if Warner addressed as well.

Absolutely, the opening narrations for the Famous shorts need to be corrected to the original narrations, and the Mild-Mannered Superman website did a good job of highlighting and correcting most of these.

I think the only opening narration the Mild-Mannered Superman website got wrong was the one for "Showdown", which features slightly different timing for the "more powerful than the pounding surf" narration and some alternate animation (specifically on the lightning) compared to the later shorts. Mild-Mannered spotted the different timing for the narration, but didn't pick up on the actual animation being very slightly different.

There were also instances in 2006 where Warner tinkered with the intros for two of the Famous shorts, "Eleventh Hour" and "Jungle Drums", unnecessarily looping the title card and opening credits footage to make them longer and track in the full length intro music from the very first short.

For the original Fleischer shorts, due to complaints, Warner themselves updated the opening narration for "The Mechanical Monsters" to the correct one (the only one that mentions Superman's X-ray vision) for their 2008 separate DVD release of all the shorts.

These films are works of art and deserve a proper restoration one day.

Mechanical Monsters was the one screwed up still on MeTV, so that master has not been taken out of circulation. Thanks for noting, I had misremembered.

I'd like to believe this stuff will be corrected, but important Looney Tunes cartoons like Rabbit of Seville, Fast and Furry-Ous, Long-Haired Hare, Baseball Bugs, Back Alley Oproar, Rabbit Fire, Bully for Bugs... have all had long-standing serious issues, be it incorrect speed or DNR erasure, for some two decades now. Same goes for a dozen or so Tom & Jerrys taken from subpar materials, including a few Oscar winners.

I am sure any possible issues with Superman will be met with the same derision and deprecation from the producers and weaponized fanbase that similar issues in the past couple years have been. But it pays to expect the worst, hope for the best, with Warner cartoon releases.

The price for this is really weird, for a set with 17 shorts. This should have been priced like the warner archive popeyes.

The price is in Canadian dollars and is MSRP. The equivalent in US dollars is around $29.99. Hopefully some retailers will have discounts.

Great! Hoping that the B&W Popeyes can eventually get a Blu-ray release too.
