Wait until the reissue comes out with TrueHD audio. The Blu-ray version got the typical WB screwjob by getting a lesser version than the HD DVD edition. They did do a new release that was bundled with some pioneer players, but so far it isn't for sale by itself. Hopefully soon.

I've stopped buying Blus after my 45 and thusly starting to look for other movies to pick up.
The storyline was gawdawful. It's more of a chick-flick love story than anything else. No action. No good fight scenes, barely any special f/x.

I saw it at the IMAX theater.....it was "kinda cool" b/c it was on the IMAX screen. That's the only reason.

Let me put it this way - I don't know you...but I'm pretty sure you are not rich enough to pay me to watch that movie again.

I think that was kind of the point, since he's in the hospital...the cape is a subdued in that scene to show injury to Superman.

However, I won't judge, since I haven't seen the transfer myself...

Once again...waiting for lossless audio

I liked it, but not as much as 1 and 2.

For that price, go for it.

It's worth watching at least once if you're a casual fan or if you liked the 70's movie version at all. It does seem geared at times more for a female audience than most summer blockbusters(if you ignore the occasional action setpieces). I would wait until the PCM/Dolby TrueHD version gets resupplied in stores.

If you take out Lois being married and having a child then you have the same story line as the first movie. He just switched the situations around. If you rewatch both of them you can tell. I left the theatre thinking I just watched a remake instead of a sequal. Its like Escape from N.Y and Escape from L.A. The same story line. Trust me.

One of the first BDs I purchased.
Story is ok.
Action is ok.
I was expecting more in the PQ dept, but was disappointed.
Warner single encode across both formats.

Is it on sale?

Visually the movie was beautiful, but storywise this was a real snoozefest.

Superman Returns is worth the purchase. I would wait for the Dolby TrueHD version though. It was one of the first BDs I purchased, and it's DD 5.1.

Given the fact that the original Superman III and IV drove the franchise into the ground, and it took the better part of 20 years to resurrect it, Bryan Singer did an admirable job. Crafting the story to wipe episodes III and IV off the planet was the right thing to do. The storyline continues the Superman/Lois/Clark triangle from the original films. No, it wasn't as action packed as Singer's last film, X-Men 2, but it successfully launched the franchise again. Now that it is off the ground again, the following chapters will probably push the action boundaries. That's the same approach Singer took transitioning from the relatively tame X-Men to the action packed film that was X2.

With the film's shortcomings, you HAVE to admit that the airplane/shuttle launch sequence was pretty exciting. And the opening credits are spine-tingling.
