Vertigo is among my favorite films. If it is being remade, I hope that the book (D'entre les morts) is closely followed (with locations in France and maybe the 1940s environment) rather than Hitchcock's style.

I honestly hope this results in a good movie, but my initial reaction is regret that I have but two middle fingers to give to the announcement.

Since you own remakes of both directors, any remake from any director is fair game then.

Can't pick and choose which remakes get outrage.
The recent All Quiet On The Western Front is NOT a remake of an older film. Indeed the 1928 novel has been adapted for cinema THREE times.

That distinguishes it from this Vertigo remake situation, which is more akin to Van Sant's remake of Psycho; or Friday 13th's - or even A Nightmare On Elm Street's - remake. Some folks like that sort of thing, of course. Only the other day, a friend raved about the Robocop reboot. Still, to me at least, it signals a decided lack of imagination, and money spent on a production that could otherwise be spent on an original work.

The 2022 film is not a remake of the original film though, but a new adaption of the same novel.

Many Hitchcock thrillers were also based on pre-existing novels. The Psycho remake however, was made by Gus van Sant intended as a shot-for-shot remake of Hitchcocks film (something he came to regret according to himself) and not as a fresh adaption of Bloch's novel. Bad decision.

It was an interesting exercise that might have been more interesting if the leads were of a higher caliber.

Haven’t we learned by now not to remake Hitchcock?

I’d be less worried if Robert Downey, Jrs last big project wasn’t Doolittle. Vertigo is one of my favorite films of all time EVER but with the right approach, as a different adaptation of the novel and not a remake of homage of Hitch’s film, it could be good. Probably not, but I like to hope.

I wouldn't mind if someone took a crack at Topaz. I love me some Hitchcock, but that one was weak enough that a remake wouldn't immediately strike me as cinematic sacrilege the way a Vertigo remake does. I fully admit that my knee-jerk "Noooooo!" may not be justified by how this new movie turns out, but they've got some heavy-lifting to do to prove me wrong.
