There was the rumour that they’re trying to capitalise on the Hogwarts Legacy storyline, which, despite running long, is probably one of the thinnest game stories I’ve played in a while, and it feels like most the enthusiasm for that game really teetered off fast.

Not interested in this. There is a lot of material the movies left out (especially from the Goblet of Fire onwards) but I don't believe a new cast and crew can capture the magic of the originals and I'm sure they'll mess up more than they'll fix.
I think the main reason WB is going this route is because building on the existing HP series has turned out to be a creative dead end. Prequels in the form of Fantastic Beasts flopped. Then their goal was to capitalize on a sequel in the form of Cursed Child that would bring back the original cast and while Chris Columbus was eager to direct, there was no approval from any of the main cast. Daniel, Emma, and Rupert have all basically said no, and while Rupert has said he'd be okay returning if the others did and Dan said he'd be open to returning decades from now, from what I've heard online, Emma refuses to have anything to do with HP or JKR anymore. On top of that, more than the main cast not likely returning is the fact that JKR herself has said no to a Cursed Child movie. She feels that a movie will hurt ticket sales for the show. That leaves WB with no choice but to reboot if they want to keep minting off of HP. |

Wait... is this series intended to adapt Rowling's existing HP novels all over again?
As in... a series remake of the 8 recent feature films with new actors in all the roles? What's the f**king point in doing that?? ![]() |

I welcome a new adaption. There's a magic to the story that the movies failed to capture imo. |

Liked Harry Potter when I was a child. Nowadays, beyond watching the films from time to time, I don't find it that interesting. After reading LotR or ASOIAF, I find the writing in Harry Potter to be mediocre and quite mean spirited. If this is more faithful to the books then I think it's going to be bad. In addition, good luck with casting different actors for Snape and McGonagall.

And yes, HUGE problems casting new people for iconic roles like that. There are so many problems with this right off the bat. |

I was under the impression that WB owns the collective book rights, while J.K. Rowling retains all the publishing rights, including the characters...so as such, nothing could be done without her involvement. I'm personally surprised that anybody would want to go near the franchise again so soon, since the last Fantastic Beasts underperformed (I really liked it, though).

There's a massive amount of material from the books that the films cut out, and I'd be interested to seeing some of it onscreen.
Plus, I like Harry Potter but I don't love it, so I'm not so attached to the franchise that I'm not too bothered about seeing other actors playing the characters. Last edited by Krynoid-Man; 04-04-2023 at 11:11 AM. |

Could be interesting.
Lots of scenes, that would flesh out some of the characters (Neville Longbottom visiting his parents, in St. Mungo’s, Filtches background etc.) Hopefully, more in the style of Prisoner of Askaban, rather than the first two movies, which I never really cared for. |

Personally, I think the general malaise around the FB films was more to do with those films than the wider franchise. I wasn’t overly enamoured with the first one and the next two didn’t improve things dramatically.
The marketing around this will no doubt be insane so I’m sure it’ll start off strongly but that will only be maintained with decent writing and performances, and until we know more about the creatives and talent lined up it could go either way. I’ll give it a chance, expect the worst and hope to be pleasantly surprised. |

I'm not really a Harry Potter fan, but the books are definitely better than the movies. The movies left a lot out and it didn't do a good job with Ginny especially...her and Harry together felt awkwardly forced in the movies. I can see how this could be good, but I'm sure it's going to be full of race/gender/sexual orientation swaps. I'd almost bet my bank account that Hermoine will be a black actress.

Here is her description in the books In the Harry Potter books, the brilliant Hermione Granger is described as having frizzy, untamable dark hair, brown eyes, and protruding teeth, but more often is defined by her intellect and devotion to her friends Never once is it mentioned if she is white or black so guess what does not matter. |

The more I think about this, the more I'll likely watch it - I've seen the HP movies once, usually a year of two after each one came out, and I'll be honest - I always found them kind of confusing like a lot was missing, plus watching them so far apart I really had no idea what the hell was going on most of the time, any way. I think I would get more into it if it moved more slowly and explained a lot more. One thing is for sure - at least they don't have to wait for someone to finish writing it - at least it's a complete series. (Not so subtle dig at GRRM LOL). |
