Would anyone who owns this be able to confirm that it is the fully uncut version of the film? Would of course like to fully replace my dvd copy not just supplement it…

112' is the running time of the Blu-ray I don't think the cut version has ever been released on DVD has it? I think the Lions Gate release was always advertised as 'Theatrical cut' ie unrated. I know it had a release too in Canada but not sure if it was cut.

I know there was a R rated cut on Cinemax.

I had a look at the DVD and it has the same version and is unwatchable compared to the Blu-ray. We're spoiled with Blu-ray quality now.

The film holds up very well - the transfer is gorgeous. Happen to also watch Kids (the recently released Australian disc). Didn't find the film as I did 25 years ago - now its a bit of a curio.

Hopefully more Larry Clark will find its way to Blu Ray. We really need an English friendly release of The Smell of Us.
I'm fortunate enough to be French, so I bought the German release of The Smell of Us. I'd still like an English friendly release though. I like having options lol.

I'm slowly adding to my Larry Clark blu-ray collection. I'd like Ken Park on blu-ray but I don't think that will ever happen. I bought a bootleg blu-ray from the US that is great. Cover art, disc art, and a menu on the blu-ray. It's great until an official release is announced, if ever.

My Canadian Lionsgate DVD has a runtime of 1:52:44. This Studio Canal blu-ray has a runtime of 1:52:19. The Studio Canal DVD that is included in this set has a runtime of 1:47:50.

This Studio Canal set has the uncut version on blu-ray and the cut version on DVD.

What kind of case is this in? It's not a standard case?

I’m wondering if that dvd runtime isn’t just PAL speed up on the dvd. There wasn’t a ton cut from the film that would correlate to that much of a runtime difference, at least that I’m aware. As long as the blu-ray (and dvd) have the sex scene with Bijou Phillips and Michael Pitt where she pours hot wax on his chest and the very brief and controversial crotch shot from Bijou Phillips in the car, it’s the uncut version. I don’t particularly have any reason to believe that anywhere else in the world, or at least anywhere in Europe, would have even received the cut version to begin with. It’s usually just the US that gets cuts for (non-violent)sexual content, which we did for this film for a time. I just wanted to make sure.

The French Bully has the hot wax scene. Also, the close-up crotch scene of Bijou Phillips.

I noticed the DVD run time difference but assumed it was PAL speedup too.

If it is the cut version it would be an error plus I can't imagine they'd use a different source from previous releases.

Plus, I don't think there was ever a cut version on DVD anywhere but looking around there was a rare UPC in the USA 057373156865 (it could have been simply a full screen version).

Doesn't matter anyway, we have a great release now.

The DVD runtime is in fact due to PAL. I checked and the Studio Canal DVD does contain the two scenes.

How's the audio compare to the dvds? Dvds were 5.1, but this blu is 2.0.

The BTS will be different to the hour of interviews on the Film4 DVD, as the DVDFr review mentions interviews with producer Don Murphy and “la suite d’entretiens avec des témoins de l’affaire, le juge, des officiers de police qui arrêtèrent les sept jeunes”.

Sigh. I’m still so bummed when I think about Renfro. This is such a great film, though, and I’m glad to see it getting some love with a new release. I don’t know if I could watch it, but maybe I should buy it anyway just to have.
