Jefferson Starship, Bea Arthur and Boba Fett - there’s still some fun in there. Plus it expanded the Wookiee mythology with Kashyyyk and is notable for being the first TV spin-off (of course Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, the radio show and Marvel Comics series were better.)

well it is only 45 minutes and not two and half hours. granted, i’m not in a rush to see it again or seek out a good quality copy. but i wasn’t angry when it was over like the three garbage disney sequels.

The cover art for this looks just as bad as the SW Holiday movie itself. I love doc's like this though so I'll watch it for sure. Could be a lot of fun if they have enough input from those who made it. If it's mostly Kevin Smith and actors making jokes that could get old.
Speaking of great movie doc's check out Lost Soul The Doomed Journey of Island of Dr.Moreau. It's about the original director getting fired and sneaking back onto the set in a goblin costume and shooting a scene with the extras without being known. He tells it first hand and we here about Val Kilmer and Brando from cast and crew, how mean and odd they were. Lot of juicy shit. |

The Star Wars Holiday Special is all the proof that’s required to confirm that everybody in Hollywood was doing blow in the late ‘70s.
If I had a DeLorean with an on-board flux capacitor, one of the very first trips I’d make back in time would specifically target being able to eavesdrop on the creative conversation for this monstrosity. First writer “So, I was thinking that we should have Chewbacca racing back home to celebrate Life Day with the family.” Second writer “We could definitely do that, and it would provide us the perfect opportunity to introduce the rest of the world to the whole Chewbacca klan.” First writer “Oooo! Mrs. Chewbacca! Brilliant! I see his wife, Malla, as being kind of a domestic goddess-wannabe, and fashion diva. Though Chewbacca refuses to wear pants, Malla wears only the very best. We need to make sure to show her in the kitchen preparing a Life Day feast, but struggling. It will create sympathy for her, and I’m not above manipulating the feelings of audience members. I see her having this killer kitchen, complete with an industrial vent hood for the range. Everything in stainless steel, which is going to be everywhere in the ‘80s.” Second writer “Absolutely. Chewbacca spared no expense, using his reward for helping to blow up the Death Star furnishing his wife with all the latest kitchen appliances. God, this is going to be so good! Many years from now, after this special has become an annual Thanksgiving tradition to replace football, our names will be as famous as George Lucas.” First writer “That’s right. And the Chewbacca family is progressive. Three generations under one roof. Chewbacca’s Dad, Itchy, now a retired chief, will spend his days whittling by the fireplace, and teaching Chewie’s son Lumpy how to be a great warrior when Chewie is off defending the galaxy from the Empire.” Second writer “All good, good buddy. But I feel the show needs more. Who can we get?” First writer “Bea Arthur is always a safe bet. I mean, who doesn’t love Maude? Art Carney is a proven veteran. How about Harvey Korman? We could have him hosting a cooking show that Malla is watching in the kitchen!” Second writer “Oh, and Diahann Carroll. We need some diversity to the Star Wars universe. And how about a musical act?” First writer “Steely Dan?” Second writer “No, I’m thinking Jefferson Starship. And we could have them perform as holographs! I can’t wait to see Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas singing together in our little sci fi masterpiece!!!” First writer “Awesome! Start clearing off some space on the mantle for your Emmy!” |

Very disappointed that the site review doesn’t mention the BD-R aspect for this disc.

The database entries will say BD or BD-R, but the problem with that is MovieZyng doesn't list the disc size like they used to, and I would bet not many people can find out the disc size themselves to be able to change the BD/BD-R info on the database. It'd be better if you could change the disc type without knowing the disc size so it's at least partly factual.

I got two copies (one for a gift) from Amazon. The discs came in cases with the actual Blu-Ray logo... only for them to turn out to be BD-Rs. I sent both back and got a refund. There's no excuse for this in this day and age.

In my personal experience, I've burned many a BD-R where the data was no longer retrievable just 6 months later. Certain disc brands seem to fail more than others, but it's been enough for me to never store data on BD-R anymore. Not saying that will necessarily happen with these MOD discs, but it certainly makes me hesitant. Plus it just seems cheap. (Although the actual purchase price certainly doesn't reflect that "cheapness"!)

I should have read this thread before buying.
Got this from Amazon, popped it in tonight, 27 minutes in it freezes up. I pop it out to check the disc and see immediately that it's a BD-R. I check Amazon's listing to see if I overlooked this, but I did not because the listing did not disclose it. Popped it back in, and it froze again at about 45 min in. It's getting returned. |

Some Players are a bit more testy about Burned Discs than others. I have LOTS of DATA Discs - stuff I've downloaded from YT and other places that I wanna play on my Flatscreen. Most play fine, but I've had problems with Buying Over-the-Counter BD-R Discs. I assume they're more sensitive/unstable to Temperature and Shipping etc.. And I've had some go south a few years after I purchased them.
