Because they probably dont have a choice. I seriously doubt that the escape clause will totally allow them to go blu exclusive.

But who knows? Blu is better.

Even if Uni and Para just went neutral, it would still be the nail in the coffin... 2 studios movies on HD-DUD and ALL MOVIES on Blu - thats a no brainer for consumers.

Lets face the facts, when these 3 studios go Blu, we will be buying their BD left and right, it is the studios that are with us now that will not have the sales, as we have gotten what we want from them already in tearms of what is already out. There are about 20 - 30 from these 3 that I would get up front, so in the long run even Paramount will do just fine when they come home to Blu.

Yeah, exactly.

Even if they do have some contract where they cant go exclusive, but HAVE to go Neutral, its not like anyone in their right mind will be buying the HDDVD version anyway, so i dont think we have anything to worry about.

Just my guess, but I think when Paramount and Universal come aboard they will simply drop DUD or shortly after. I think this will happen especially how we're hearing Universal is going to have to re-do some encodes for BD.

I agree.

There's a lot of tough talk here, but when Paramount and Universal go Blu, this board's wallets will open and we will forget all about the "war".

It's all about the movies. If the quality is there and they release a great library, I will be there to support them. Yes, they got paid off, but look at how much they have lost being on the other side. I'm about the movies.

It also would not hurt that when they do come back, they offer a bogo for a while, you know, just to help ease the tension.

Actually,.. no. I don't think so. When paramount made their big mistake they did it in a "burning bridges" type of move. They cancelled titles that were already shipped or ready to ship. If you remember ,.. it was a spiteful move. Now,.. I do think they have been regretting it every since it began to look like it didn't work.

Look at WB in contrast... They gave the other side 6 months and continued to support and release for them.

It could have been different. And,.. it should have been different.

Either way,.. I haven't seen Transformers yet,.. I think that would be the first thing I would pick up.

I would expect Paramount and Dreamworks to release titles released last year on HD DVD and catalogue titles like Gladiator.

These fantasies about how Paramount needs to come back crawling on their knees and begging and how the BDA should dish out an appropriate penance for their sins are just hilarious.

As for the people planning to punish Paramount by not buying their titles, hey, knock yourself out. Just don't expect anyone to actually notice.

Personally, I'll buy any Paramount titles that I'm interested in owning as soon as they're out on Blu-ray. Whether or not they're still releasing titles on HD DVD is pretty irrelevant.

I agree. If/when Paramount and/or Universal start to release titles to Blu-ray, i will buy them regardless of the war. I want these movies, I care less about the format war.

How about transfer quality? Are you worried about these? Any chance Universal/Paramount will produce crappy transfers from the DUD master to the blu disc just to screw people at first?

I feel that when paramount comes back it should be to mixed emotions. Those of us who have been following this format war since ir even before its US debut inception have to feel real strong against the RED supporters. I know I do. I am a die hard Blu follower and have been since I saw products in Tokyo in 2004. I on the other hand do want to purchase Transformers and the Bourne trilogy and cant wait , but there will be resentment for a while.

Hey,

Just so that no one reads be wrong,.. I will buy paramount Blus no prob.

I've bought more since they left then I did before the big mistake.

I just think that it would only be "fair" for them to be as cocky this time and they were the last time and just cancel titles already slated for the other format.

Not that It matters these days though.

In fact,.. Once Blu starts really taking off,... I will have a very hard time keeping up with all the movies I want to buy.

You know from a certain perspective Paramount's switching to DUD last year was a good thing for Blu-ray. Why? Well, Blu-ray still won all of the weekly software sales and it surpassed DUD in standalones by the end of December. All of this showed the other studios and manufacturers just how resiliant/strong Blu-ray was after losing a studio and how it kept everyone else together...and probably influenced Warner's decision to support BD exclusively which ended up being the key turning point in all of this.

If they make crappy copies, they will get crappy sales. Besides, i heard somewhere that if Universal was to release Blu-ray, they would have to start over with everything since the HD DVD copies are not good enough. Looks like the real reason they want HD DVD to win is laziness. They don't want to put any effort into these movies, but will have to with Blu-ray.
