The tone does shift to something a little more unsettling in the second half, and at times it borders on feeling like a horror film. I had a great audience who thankfully were fully into it, and were cracking up as much as I was. Unlike most other comedies I've seen in theaters, I noticed my audience laughing/giggling well after certain scenes had finished.

Personally, I have a love/hate relationship with cringe/awkward humor, where I find Robinson hilarious, but also so painful to watch. In any event, he has perfected his craft and no one could play the part better. Paul Rudd was also really great, and super likable here, like pretty much everything he's in. I know this type of humor isn't for everyone, but I recommend checking it out, especially if you can see it with a crowd.

4.25/5
He's very hit and miss. Some of his sketches I love. Others not so much. I didn't care for the ghost sketch where others seemed to like that one. My favorite sketches are the drive-thru one and the birthday gift one with Steven Yeun.

Now playing in the top 10 markets (plus Detroit)

Quote:
After a stellar limited opening last weekend, A24’s Friendship jumps from 6 to 60 screens in top ten markets plus Detroit, the hometown of star Tim Robinson. The comedy bromance with Robinson and Paul Rudd soared to $451k on screens in New York and L.A., the top limited opening of 2025, with a per screen average of over $75k. Written and directed by Andrew DeYoung (Our Flag Means Death, PEN15). With Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer. Robinson, the former SNL performer and writer is the face of his popular Netflix sketch comedy I Think You Should Leave.

Really hoping this opens near me. Shows up in the Regal App, assuming it'll update tonight since Wednesdays seem to be when my nearest theater updates their showtimes. Been eagerly waiting for this one.

As I assumed. My theater isn't getting it here due to the one two combo of MI and L&S. Plus my theater is getting remodeled. So not as many theaters available currently

Very much looking forward to this despite not being the biggest fan of Tim Robinson. I want to support legit comedies when they actually get made.

This was my type of movie. Awkward as hell with insane pieces of dark comedy.

[Show spoiler]the subway hallucination scene had me dying!

This one will not be for mainstream audiences because it is not a traditional comedy, but for people that like extremely awkward comedy, this is an A+

Used my A24 free ticket to see this tonight. There were some extremely funny scenes in this movie, but overall I didn't care much for it. Seems to be a running theme lately for me with these A24 films. Movie screenings seem to be very jam-packed, though.

My son and I are using my A24 ticket and $5 ticket to see this on Sunday. I can't wait.

I had no interest in the A24 membership, but decided to give it a free month using another member's referral program....damn, it's really nice. I may have to stick with it. The free pass and new $5 partner ticket alone makes it worth the monthly fee.

If anything it will encourage me to get back into the theater again and support the local theaters. (I can't help but buy popcorn and a soda, you know, for the good of the local economy ).

If you dig Tim Robinson (and I very much do), it’s a great time at the movies.

If he isn’t your cup of tea, the movie completely hangs off his comedic talents. I can honestly say I had zero idea where it was going at any one time.

Worth it to see that big goofy face on the biggest screen you can.

We loved it. From start to finish, we were laughing. I like absurd/surreal comedy in smaller doses. I was worried this would be a series of bits strung together for a full length film. Or worst, a bit that was worthy of a short film, but extended to a feature.

Friendship was neither. One of the funniest films I've seen in years. And I agree with Craig, that frog ripped him off.

I told my friends I want to start breaking out into songs when we hang out.

And that Subway scene is fire.

Holy shit, the amount of second-hand embarrassment in this movie was next level. I've never been so tensed up in a theater than this because of it!

I was dying at the Subway scene. Bloody hilarious.

As I go into movies blind, I didn't really know what this was going to be genre-wise. I almost expected it to be a thriller, even. The amount of humor and anti-humor in this was well-balanced, and I don't know if anyone else could take the lead in this film like Tim Robinson did.

I enjoyed it. Your mileage may vary.

I've been thinking about the Subway scene for the past 5 days. Somehow it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I'll be buying it for sure and making everyone I know watch it.

I hadn't seen Tim Robinson's stuff before seeing Friendship, I just thought it looked funny. I've watched a couple I Think You Should Leaves and Detroiters since and I really like them. Not everything lands, but when it lands it is usually extremely funny.

Without giving too much away. Does Paul Rudd have a big part in the movie? Thanks
