On the topic, so freaking happy Robo 2 is getting a 4K. Underrated as hell. Though on my rewatch a few years ago I thought it was one of the most mean-spirited and violent movies with a budget that I've ever seen. If not the most. Made me want to look away a few times. Even Robo 1 never did that to me.
That's why I've soured on Robo 2 after cheerleading for it for so long. It's so blazingly violent and ultra-cynical elsewhere that it feels like someone trying to repeat the glories of the first without understanding that they're not the only fruit. Maybe I'll feel differently again when I rewatch it, but last time out it was the stuff with Murphy stalking his missus that I responded to the most and it's a shame that that story strand of Murphy reclaiming his humanity is completely overwhelmed by the rest of it. That's the core of the first movie and it's pretty much gone second time around.

Anyways, I'll still buy it (or will more likely wait for Arrow, I'm reluctant to buy too many Shout or Kino UHDs these days because I don't want to have to keep replacing their mediocre efforts), so it looks like I got a couple more Shout BDs to offload on eBay next time I'm listing my stuff

I can swallow cyborgs running amok but I struggle to get past a 10 year old as the leader of a drug gang.

This is why it's awesome.

If you want Robocop 2.5, play the new video game. It's great fan service, it plays very well, and your choices actually have consequences. Over the past month I've been able to squeeze in two playthroughs. Grab it on sale.

This is the movie when the 80s officially became the 90s.

About time Shout! used the poster/VHS art everyone grew up with rather than delegating it to being disc art.

I was hoping for a 4K of Robo 3 as well, tho, since even the HD master on the prior Shout! blu-ray was pretty old even then.

I don't own any of the sequels. Guess it's a good time to start.

Shout is exclusive to the US, so Arrow still might pick this up in the UK.

Never thought we would get this in 4K. Nice.

And that gang easily took out Robocop. The last time I watched this, I felt Robocop was more of a joke. The slow, lumbering movements never really drew attention to themselves in the first movie. He'd either confront people in confined spaces or have enough time to get off some ranged attacks. I never really think about "what if someone just gets in close and pushes him over?"

That question is answered in Robocop 2.

The recent video game, Rogue City, basically functions as a Weller Robo 3, and I feel tries to recontextualize Murphy's humanity missing in Part 2, ie picks up the threads abandoned early on.
