And each post started with this exact picture and folks had to invent things for Ahnuld to say and type in his accent of course. Needless to say, caps lettertype only. So I hope you don't mind: ![]() ![]() |

![]() That was a lovely watch. Hit the CC button for subtitles on the non-English parts. Paris, Texas is a beautiful film. |

The big difference to the 2014 4K/2K one is the color scheme and luckily Wenders and his colorist did some great adjustments to the better. Can’t wait for the LSP or FiM-encoded UHD! ![]() |

I think that the most clueless people in this site are generally in the comment sections of news' articles. I've seen pearls like "I don't get the appeal of people wanting a dark image" to bemoan the UHD format. And, of course, it's also the thriving ground of people who are paranoid about "yellow" and/or "teal" grades, people who use old home video transfers as reference. Pro-bassoonist, better known as reviewer Dr. Svet, is their hero.
There were these two comments in the news' article about Janus Films screening the 4K restoration of Paris, Texas: "one of my favourite movies of all time that i have watched with a particular colour palette for the last 40 years...don't let us down..that trailer looks mighty yellow...but i won't judge until it's watched" " any input from Wenders or Müller on the restoration? this is one of my all-time favs as well, and it'll be deeply depressing and angering if they've "modernized" the color grading. that's more StudioCanal's thing, so for now I will do my best to remain optimistic... c'mon Janus, don't let us down!" And this is pro-bassoonist's answer to the concerns of the users who made the comments quoted above: "The restoration has been out for a while now in other markets, so there is no need to guess how it looks. It looks exactly as the trailer and poster suggest -- it is a total regrading job, with the beautiful blues wiped out by teal. There are other anomalies that alter the native color temperature of the film, too. The most obvious ones are during the daylight footage, but indoor footage for instance is also affected, which makes sense given the total destablization of several native primaries and nuances. So, what you described is correct. There is nothing stunning about it. It is sad because this is a beautiful film that was easy to see theatrically well into the 1990s. Fortunately, the old Blu-ray release has the proper color scheme, which Wim Wenders supervised. (The new regrading job is also supervised by him). You are essentially looking at a Thelma and Louise scenario 2.0, but with some even more noticeable alterations." https://blu-ray.com/news/?id=34986 |

Not only director approved, Wenders was directly involved:

Random as hell but I just realized Transformers Age of Extinction takes place in Paris, Texas more than Paris, Texas does lol. That's where I live btw.
Anyways....can't wait for this.. |

I've made a screenshot comparison between the Criterion BD, the 2019 Studiocanal BD (Éclair grade, 2K restoration from 4K scan) and the new Janus trailer of the 40th Anniversary 4K restoration. I didn't have the time to match the frames 100% but the intention was to show the color differences.

If this improves upon the already excellent German Blu-ray then we should be in for an absolute treat.

Will be interesting to see how the now-announced Curzon 4k will compare.
We wait years for this to hit uhd, and in the span of two weeks, we suddenly have THREE distinct upcoming uhd options for the title, possibly with three different encodes. Exciting times! |
