When I was on an MSN site this morning that featured a "Death of HD DVD" article, I couldn't believe the lame comments of ordinary folks who still believe that DVDs are plenty "good enough" for them. I had to post in response. If we thought HD fanboys were lame, we ain't seen nothing yet.

Amazon.com and all the B&M retailers really need to hammer away at these dolts who seem incapable of actually seeing the extraordinary difference between DVDs and Blu-rays!

I swear, they'd forgo riding in a car because, well, covered wagons are good enough means of travel for them.

Nothing changes tho, not like they are going to remove hd dvd movies from the site.

Basically its a fluff press release to get free advertising for Amazon without paying for it. The article basically says "For those idiots still dumb enough to want to buy HD DVDs, we'll still gladly take your money, but blu-ray won, this means we get a free press release going out to news sites as advertising by saying we support blu-ray more. Suckers."

That's OK s@m, I appreciate you posting this for us to see. However, greekjgg is right, I think that the "edits" used to prevent new members from starting new threads until they had 5 (or was it 10?) posts in their history. I suspect we have a ton of new members signing up recently. Welcome to Blu-ray.com s@m!

Great to see Amazon promoting Blu-ray as the High Def format of the present and future.

Sorry I'm cranky S@m!! I didn't mean to take it out on you!!

To me now that Toshiba has officially surrendered all this additional news is just useless and doesn't mean anything anymore. They are showing up after everyone is starting to leave the party now if you ask me?

Really, the only thing left to be announced and is news worthy is Paramount's return.

I'm just getting really sick of every little insignificant headline somebody posts this and then we start the congrats thread ALL over again. I'm as excited as anyone but you can only have one Victory parade and that was done Tuesday!!

Amazon does a good job of providing what the market has asked for, and in helping to protect potential buyers with warnings, notes, etc in the product descriptions. It helps buyers, and it helps them. There are few retailers online or Brick and Mortar that I feel do such a great job. In fact, all I can really think of is Amazon and NewEgg. Over years of intense buying, I've never been let down by either. Even when things are a few cents more on Amazon (which isn't very often), I'd much rather throw my business their way. Virtually instant delivery (especially w/Amazon Prime to keep the cost down), and their no nonsense refund/return policies are worth it.

Good news but not like it really means much does it? "Format of Choice" sounds just like a way to jump on the bandwagon without really changing anything.

The real point now is to get the word out to all those who've been on the fence regarding Hi Def players and media. There are a lot of folks who have to have it driven into them that the format war is over and they can now make one choice, the right one. It's important that amazon and BB and CC and the others make it clear that there is one recommended choice still remaining.

Believe me, I can't tell you how many friends--who'd heard that the RCA CED format had been cancelled--would see my LaserDisc player and many LaserDiscs and ask me, years later, "I thought that was cancelled." I'd have to explain that LaserDisc (this was the late 80's and early 90's) was still going strong and they'd got their formats confused.

Most folks don't follow this like we do. And, besides, we've had to endure so much crap for so long, it's going to take a few days longer to get all the celebrating out of the way.

I don't think thats our job anymore. Now that retailers don't have to split advertising promotions between red and blu you will see a huge push from everyone to make this happen. Blu is now the shot in the arm Media needs and now that the format has been chosen everyone will get behind us. I'm sorry to say that us early adopters are now obsolete LOL. Our job is done so to speak, we can retire and truly enjoy the fruits of our EARLY hard work. Let the newbies take over and spread the word. We did the heavy hitting early war, let the next tour come in and manage it while we go home back to our families again!!

Thanks s@m
I think this is also significant because of the loss of brick-and-mortar sales points for those not with Blu-ray, online retailers were a last refuge for them. Now Blu-ray will be emphasized wherever they go - no escaping it.

Add to that the warning posted with any remaining HD Dud hardware listed there about the format's 'deadness'.

It would have been nice if this was before the Toshiba announcement.

It was pretty obvious Amazon was going to support Blu after HD-DVD died.

This is exactly how I feel. How does their push towards the only hi-def format help? It's like when Henry Ford used to say "You can have any color as long as it's black".
