I liked the movie but not sure if I should get it now or wait for the eventual 2 movie set.

How do we know this isn't the two-movie set though? No release date and the product description makes this unclear.

There is a release date, it's March 31, 2025. They're not going to wait a year and a half. They will release part 1 now and part 2 later (March 2026?) with a possible 2-movie set. That's how it has always been with this kind of movies.

The good thing about Wicked is since this isn't labelled as Part One and the marketing artwork is relevant to both parts, you can replace the included Blu-ray with the UHD for Part 2 if you want them under the same volume.

I think it's safe to assume that it's just Part One.

Although if Universal relegated all of the extras to the 1080p disc, like Monkey Man, you'd need a different case.

Won't even 'bite' until it's ALL released as "Complete"; as far as a movie could go.

Once bitten, twice shy.

Universal. And I'm sure there will be plenty of rereleases coming in this movie's future so if not at first then somewhere down the line.

I saw it. It didn't NEED to be 2.5 hours. It could have easily been a 3 hour epic.

I just hope we get a regular 4K release with the same cover art as for the giftset, that teaser poster is gorgeous and way more beautiful than the regular one

I feel there's nothing wrong with splitting an adaptation in two parts, after all we have multi episode, 6+ hour miniseries adaptations of a lot of books.

But there is something wrong with not being upfront about it in the marketing. In the early days of this trend, movies like Kill Bill, Deathly Hallows, Mockingjay, Breaking Dawn were all upfront that you are watching Part 1 of 2 and will need to see another film to finish the story. Audiences grew tired and cynical of this trend after The Hobbit did 3 movies, so studios thought the best approach to this criticism was to be secretive. Avengers 3, Across the Spider Verse, Dune and now Wicked all tricked the audience into thinking they were watching a complete story, only to drop part 1 in the title or leave on a huge cliffhanger. Sure, internet nerds like us know the truth but it's still deceptive marketing that most were fooled by. Whether or not Wicked should be 2 parts, it's guilty of duping the average person into buying two tickets when they thought they only needed one. Which is purely about money, not story.

The digital version drops December 31st, the 4K and Blu-ray February 4th:

Quote:
* Sing Along: A feature-length version for you and your friends to raise your voices along with Elphaba (Erivo) and Glinda (Grande).

DELETED AND EXTENDED SCENES

* Pfannee & ShenShen Meet Glinda - Reunited at Shiz University, Glinda, Pfannee, and ShenShen recall their past by performing a twirling routine together.

* Shiz Gazette Introduces Fiyero - Excitement spreads across Shiz as word gets out that Prince Fiyero is on his way.

* Toss Toss - Glinda teaches Elphaba the art of Toss Toss, with mixed results.

* Elphaba & Fiyero in the Forest - The relationship between Elphaba and Fiyero takes a turn as they come to care for a lost lion cub.

* Elphaba’s Promise - Elphaba makes a pledge to Glinda that they both hope will strengthen their friendship.

* Train Platform Farewell - Glinda, Madame Morrible, and Governor Thropp gather to send Elphaba off to Emerald City.

* Boq & Elphaba Talk - Elphaba challenges Boq to face the truth about his feelings for Nessa Rose, but she has difficulty doing the same when it comes to Fiyero.

* Train Ride to Emerald City - Glinda and Elphaba expand their world by taking a luxurious train ride to Emerald City.

* In the Emerald City - The bustling streets of Emerald City take Glinda and Elphaba one step closer to finally meeting the Wizard.

* Palace Monkeys Chase - Elphaba and Glinda race through a maddening maze of winged monkeys determined to take them down.

FEATURETTES

* "The Making of Wicked": Audiences are invited on a behind-the-scenes tour of how the magic came together.

* "Welcome to Shiz": A love-letter to the university at the center of the story, where fans will learn about the colors, styles, and patterns that went into making Shiz the eye-catching wonderland that it is.

* "A Wicked Legacy": Cast and crew members take a trip down the Yellow Brick Road and into the past where they nostalgically reminisce about what made the original musical so important to them.

* "The Wonderful Wizard": Jeff Goldblum welcomes viewers into the Wizard of Oz's palace where they'll see first-hand all of his glory.

COMMENTARIES

* Feature Commentary with Director Jon M. Chu

* Feature Commentary with Stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo
Interestingly, all of the deleted scenes from the released screenplay are here except for the one people want to see the most: the friendship montage that takes place after "Popular" but before Dr. Dillamond's arrest. That signals to me that they're going to end up using it as a flashback in For Good.
