I love me some Elaine, and I think her take was not only widespread, but understandable. Regardless, I’d buy an upgrade without hesitation. Loved the book and loved the movie.

Ah yes, another victim of the "best picture winner" curse. Where it's not really a bad movie at all but due to the fact it won best picture at the Oscars, it gets a lot of hate.

Anthony Minghella certainly had an old Hollywood spirit and it's unfortunate that his work has been largely overlooked these days. The English Patient and Cold Mountain were throwbacks in a changing Hollywood landscape. They're probably more seen as old-fashioned these days, even more so than the movie they tried to evoke.

Shame he died when he did. I would've loved to see what he'd be doing right now.

I've never seen the film before. I always heard that it was a bore. I remember when Criterion released the laserdisc of it back in the day. It was a big deal.
