Several of the Fox titles listed already had ooollllddd 4k SDR masters (Fight Club and French Connection) and some of them were receiving new HDR remasters prior to the Mouse acquisition. A couple did get finished and put on disc, like Speed and Planet of the Apes, while many others like Wall Street (which previously had a 4k SDR on digital then recently upgraded with a different HDR transfer) only popped up on digital so far. Even Sideways and Napoleon Dynamite just had their 4k HDRs completed and dumped on digital, with both possibly coming to disc in the near future.

As for French Connection, it's suspected Friedkin did manage a 4k HDR prior to his passing. But if it wasn't completed I suspect they went back and undid certain things whcih is setting things back a bit further.

I watched the Napoleon Dynamite 4k on FAH the other day, it looked fantastic and I'm looking forward to a physical release.

Just as well. I dont want another Aliens-type upscale mastered for streaming on a UHD disc.

Cause it would be moved into the UHD wishlist sub-forum where it belongs. Most of the posts in the 'Blu-ray Movies - North America' sub-forum are off-topic 'I want this in 4k!'.

This. The earlier colour timing for The Sound of Music is the version I grew up with and very much prefer, and I consider it a pretty drastic difference from the 2010 restoration. It's one of the reasons I have never actually picked it up in HD. I wouldn't be interested in a 4K if it maintained the 2010 look.

I just got Hat & Beard Press’ stunning book on Blood In, Blood Out. Insane how they’re sitting on a 4K release of this gem with a HUGE cult following

Anastasia was recently updated to 4K UHD on digital providers, just like Con Air it has new cover artwork....

Fight Club has an old transfer, but it's solid. It still looks great, especially when you consider the intentions. (This was before Fincher got bitten by the AI bug.)

TFC, on the other hand...

I'd like to repost this video of his "restoration" work on TFC for the first Blu-ray. Someone originally posted this in the Exorcist 4K thread, so thanks whoever you are.

The fact that it looked perfectly fine, and even already a bit desaturated, before Billy's f*ckery took over makes me wonder why he had to go even further.

The fact that he's no longer around to play in his sandbox is the only reason I'm even considering buying his 4Ks, including but not limited to Cruising, the rumored TFC, and hopefully a complete redo of The Exorcist. If he were still alive, I'd be sitting out on Cruising, and that's one of my favorite movies ever.

A brand new scan of the negative, followed by proper restoration and proper color timing, is needed for this film.

I truly don't see the point in the cyan and yellow pushes that movies get. Who exactly are they geared to? The people who like new movies aren't buying old movies anyway, and the people who want old movies aren't buying them because they look like ass.

The Sound Of Music is a Best Picture winner. It's a masterpiece with great acting, great directing, great music, great set design, great everything. But watching the Blu-ray, it looks like a piss-washed mess that was shot on a digital camera.

Seriously, fix this movie. It shouldn't look like this.

At least Anastasia looks more like the various $5 kids movies you'd see on an endcap and not like an AI-produced cover like Warners would put out.

I just hope Disney starts giving a damn. They have probably 20,000 titles in their vaults, and we've seen less than 20 in the several years they've owned Fox.

Honestly, I wish they'd start selling off assets. They don't care about vintage Fox and really only bought the company for Star Wars and Marvel. I wish they'd start selling off parts they clearly don't care about to buyers who do. Iger overpaid anyway, so it would be a way to recoup that over payment.

I still stand by this; Disney buying Fox was the best thing to ever happen and made up for their acquisition of Lucasfilm. In a way, Star Wars is now with the company that should've had it all along.

Sony just needs to keep greasing the wheels with Disney and soon, they'll start budging.

Also, Fox made a new deal with Criterion recently.

Massive corporate mergers toward monopolization are bad, actually. Take a look at “Fox’s” output lately. 20th Century put out exactly 4 movies last year, all were existing franchises. One was a monument to Ryan Reynolds’ own ego and part of the MCU. Disney buying Fox is arguably the single most destructive thing to every come from any major studio.

That dude posts the same exact thing every few months and is never willing to acknowledge anything any of the counterexamples that people bring up. And yet in a few months time will pretend that he has the ultimate correct opinion regarding the Disney-Fox merger.

Why should anyone but Disney bootlickers sincerely care about this? Star Wars is 99.9% exactly the same movie in 2024 as it was in 2017 and I don't care that Disney didn't have to pay millions to put the stupid Buck Rogers movie on Disney+... instead they paid exactly 71.3 billion dollars.

Give me the 30 or so Fox titles that Kino was going to put out on Blu-ray before that license fell through any day.

Are you serious? Nope I completely disagree Disney buying Fox was one of the worst things to ever happen it shouldn't have happened at all. I'm sorry as if Fox had still been around we would've gotten way way more catalogue titles on Blu-Ray plus more vintage titles from Fox which Disney has essentially kept hostage since they bought them. Do not tell me this was a good move that's ridiculous. Also we would've gotten more Fox titles from Kino on Blu-Ray Disney ruined all of that, and kept so many Fox titles from getting released on Blu-Ray.

Disney became one of the most evil companies ever after they bought Fox I was so angry when this happened.
