Shout Acquires Golden Princess Library...The Killer Hardboiled, etc

Since Shout holds worldwide rights, I wonder what this means for potential releases outside North America. Would they license some of these films out to labels in, say, UK or Australia where Shout doesn't have a strong (any?) presence, or are they looking to start distributing overseas themselves?

It is interesting that SF seemingly didn't renew their distribution deal with 101 Films for the UK (over 120 films in that deal). Tons of titles just suddenly went OOP with very little advanced warning, including some new/recent releases. I could definitely see SF branching out to the UK at the very least given the amount of films they have worldwide rights to.

Wow! Truly unexpected and incredible news. Here's hoping the cut material from A Better Tomorrow 2 and Bullet in the Brain turn up. ABT2 is The Magnificent Ambersons of Hong Kong cinema.

So happy I can talk about this finally! Known this for a month, but yeah, I stressed to my friend at Shout how much people care about this. They won't just be dumping these out. I have also seen via Facebook that Frank Djeng is working on a lot of these, teasing an interview he already did for City on Fire.

I will be shocked if they don't do 4ks for all the Woo films, but the rest, I have no idea. I at least told my friend the films I hope they prioritize and give standalone releases or the 4k treatment. But I don't think he has any control over things, probably just can suggest to those who do.

Damn, City on Fire might be one of their first releases, which is fantastic news. Won't have to wait too long for these it seems. I hope they get all the John Woo films done right.

Pretty sure it's in the library they bought. I mentioned it to my friend and I'm pretty sure he confirmed they have the trilogy. But that was a month ago, I can't be positive. He said it was 150 films total.

Edit: It is, that article confirms it. I didn't read it until right now.

i'm lucky enough to have gotten these when they were released but to say i am wildly excited about this news is a vast vast understatement. such essential films that will hopefully get their rightful due
